Death Eater
can anyone post pix of a cornsnake that is about a year old? September 11 is the day i bought my snake which should make her a year, and she is pretty long but no that thick. ive seen pix of snakes about 9months and they are way bigger than mine, so i was wondering maybe im not feeding her enough or something. i feed her 2 pinkies a week (note: there not purely pink, theyre kinda big and have a little fur on them.) thnx in advance.

all four of mine are coming up to being a year old. All of mine are currently eating hoppers. The biggest one is on 2 hoppers a week and she will be one next month.

I will post pics later on tonight.

Wll, I had a little time before I went out so here is "Frosty"

She will be one next month and is well over 2 feet long. She currently eats 2 hoppers a week, but she probably could eat more. I just don't want to overfeed her.

It sounds like you are giving her at least peach fuzzies, if not regular fuzzies. Is there a bulge in her mid section after she gets done eating?

if not a year old, mine should be next month cuz thats when i bought her and she is no where near as big as yours.....next time i feed her im going to ask for 2 fuzzies. one last thing, do i have to kill them before i feed them to her or not yet. i know i should of got frozen but they dont sell them here in my town, and my parents wont let me store the packs in the freezer cuz they think its gross. :shrugs:

You don't have to prekill them but I would advise you to when the feeder mice start to get bigger in size.

Hey there!

I just thought I'd chime in here too. I have two snakes that are right about the same age as your snake (one is just a week younger than yours) so I thought I'd give you an idea of where they are at. Trogdor was hatched in July of last year, so he is a little over a year old now. He is about 2 feet long and eating fuzzies. Melony was hatched september 18th (i think...maybe i should look that up) Anyway, she is only about 18-20 inches long and eating peach fuzzies like yours. She was very small to begin with since she was from a second clutch, but she's growing at a pretty fast rate, so I'm happy with that. Since yours hatched in september also, theres a good chance she is from a second clutch too.

I wouldn't worry about her size too too much, snakes grow at all sorts of different rates (my youngest snake - 10 months old - is over 3 feet long now). I might add though, that your snake can eat a prey item that is up to 1.5 times as big around as your snake is. That should leave a pretty nice and substantial lump after your snake eats. One other thing to try is "snipping" the mice if they are f/t (make a few cuts through the skin along the mouse's spine). You proably have heard about that before, but it makes the food easier to digest, and they can get more nutrients out of it. I'm a big fan of that technique.

Anyway, if you want to look at pictures of my three here are the links to their info on the ACR (pics are about a month old):

thnx for the advice, here are some pix of her.......as you can see shes not that big (you cant tell caz the mouse is just a pinkie) shes pretty long but not thick like the others ive seen. after reading some posts i realized its caz im feeding her pinkies and should be on fuzzies already and maybe hoppers.

This is my August 2004 female snow with a young adult mouse. She's on the 'well grown' end of normal!
She gets a mouse per week and just like her big brother (same parents but 1 year older) she is a piggie and grows like a weed!

The snake in my avatar is my July 04 amel. She is 27 inches long and is eating fuzzies, but she is ready to move up to hoppers as soon as I get some ordered. I also have July 04 snow, who is about the same size.

Yeah, I'd agree she is a bit big for pinkies. I'd be a little hesitant about upping her to hoppers though (unless they are real small ones) she looks like fuzzies may be about her limit right now - at least from the looks of the pictures. Some snakes just grow more slowly, and thats fine. Yours does seem like its to the small side for an '04, but you want to be careful about not giving it a prey item that it can't handle. Obviously, you would be the best one to judge what size she is ready for. Just follow the "1.5x rule" and she should be gaining size for you in no time:)

BTW, she is beautiful, what is her name?

as of now its Trinity, but im not sure if she is a she. they didnt tell me when i bought her, and then when i went the other pet shop for her mouse i asked if they could tell me and they said its probably a girl. they said it was to early to tell, and both vets that we have here dont know how to sex a snake. my town really sux.

sorry forgot to put the pix lol

Popping is a really reliable way to sex hatchlings if done properly. I've done it for 3 of my own and a good handful of friends clutches and had good accurate results and no injuries. I know a big breeder who probes all of his hatchlings (corns and many others) as soon as they come out of the egg.

You can sex a baby snake and anyone who tells you it can't be done is just not confident in doing it.

I've actually found that I can now visually sex them as hatchlings with pretty good accuracy. I sexed (by popping) a clutch of 11 for a freind the other day and got all but one right just by looking at the size, shape and taper of the tail.

Happy birthday FROSTY!
Remember when? She looks like she's ready for small mice.
