I had my corn in a 10 gallon tank with his food dish on one side, and his hide over top the heater on the other side... I recently found out the heat was too high ... and i had a bigger tank so i just figured it was time to switch, now hes been in the ten gallon since september 2006, in those same conditions... i feel bad that the heat pad was too hot for him all along, and i didnt have a hide on the cold side either... but just the other day i switched him into a larger tank, 20-30 gallons... I have his hide over his heat pad still, and a large peice of wood that is pretty much the same length as the tank, just a bit shorter, and another smaller peice of wood .... I will post pictures when i get them, but when he was in his 10 gallon he always hid under his hide. Since i've put him in his new tank, I havent found him under his hide once. Whenver i see him hes in the shavings borrowed... Is there any problems with this ... and when i put him in his new tank i also got a thermostat so its around 85 degrees under the hide.. and 75 on the cold side.....But im worried about him not being under his hide anymore, is it maybe the larger tank he can boroow more than he could in his 10 gallon? right now hes almost the length of the ten gallon..... any help would be appreciated!!
 
Sounds like its doing great. Don't worry about borrowing thats perfectly normal. a few more hides would never hurt. My 3 snakes seem too love them plastic plants also.
 
Burrowing is completely normal - he probably just feels secure there. When I look in to my corn's home I can see little tunnels through the aspen. :)

Have you put a hide on the cool side yet? I wasn't sure from what you said. If not, that might be a good idea. A snake needs at least two hides - one of mine has three.
 
Instead of a hide on the cold side i have these two peices of wood that he seems to borrow under a lot, i always see his head poking out from under them, is this close enought o being a hide? or would he like to be out from under the aspen and under an actual hide?
 
Having the wood pressing on top of him probably adds a measure of security. I use flat pieces of cardboard or newspaper that I always find them under.

Tunneling thru aspen (or climbing branches) is good exercise, especially for babies
