2 Contrasting Kings: Freshly Shed

Maria is a subtly patterned '05 Mexican black kingsnake from Carol H.. She is growing at a phenomenal rate. She's in shed every 3 1/2 weeks, but it doesn't affect her appetite. She's tripled her weight in two months. Daisy is an '05 albino lavender Florida kingsnake from a local pet store. Daisy is puppy-tame, but Maria can be a musker. However, Maria stole my heart when Carol first posted pics of her, and she may be my favorite snake. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this girl really catches MY eye. I wouldn't trade that $20 beauty for a lav blood corn, so you know my infatuation with her is beyond rationality. :grin01:

They are both fantastic, but I think I know what you mean. Maria is gorgeous and I bet the pics don't quite do her justice. She gets 3 cools!

Thanks for the 3 cools, Mike! Maria is so suh-weet. Her musking is always defensive, and only happens when I have to dig her out of the aspen. She's never shown the least amount of aggression. Most of the time, she's under her hide, and she never gives me a problem when I pick her up from there. And you're right, the pics don't quite pick up how cool she really looks.

When the lav-albino FL feels defensive, she balls, and that's it. You just pick up the pinkish clump of kingsnake, and you're good to go. :)

I'm glad you are enjoying your garbage disposal, I sure love mine!
Enjoying is an understatement; I absolutely love this gal. Her unwavering devotion to prey consumption is icing on the cake. Can't wait to get the male from you. He's promised to my youngest sister, but I'll have full access to him. :grin01:

Great pics Dean. Been watching Caddyshack again? :grin01:

Thanks. No, I own it, but it's been a few months. It's one of those movies that I could play in my head from beginning to end, line for line, if I put my mind to it. It's so bad that when I hear the word "duty", my brain instantly conjures up Spaulding yelling: "doody!" in the pool. I'll have to grow up someday, I guess. ;)

They both look great. I really like your new addition :), but there is something especially cool about the MBKs. And Briah has a special interest in your posts since she saw pics of your Maria, lol.

Thanks Traci. :) If Briah wants to know, Maria was delivered to me at a respectable 20g. Even though I'd usually give a corn 5-10g more before I started them on fuzzies, I started with her right away. She took 45 minutes to get her first fuzzy down, but after that, she had 'em down in less than 5 minutes. After her next shed, she'll start on hoppers. :)

They're beautiful Dean, I can see why you love your little lav...but seriously...you wouldn't even swap her for a lav blood??? -anyone out there want to test him here!!?

Also, tell me.. will these girls be used a disposal units for your non feeders? I's like a king for that purpose but then I think I'd have too hard a time feeding a snake to another snake. :puke01:

Well, if someone wants to trade her for a lav-blood, they're welcome to make the offer. Then it would be my task to try to find an MBK that looks just like her to ship instead. ;) No one will tear the real Maria and me apart. :grin01:

I'm not sure if I'll actually use them for this purpose. They really weren't purchased as snake disposal units. If I do, they will certainly NOT be fed live hatchlings. I'd consider it after the hatchling has been humanely euthanized, but not before. But then again, they're doing great on rodents, and I'm not going to do it just to save myself a 19 cent feeder rodent. If it's all about the "circle of life" thing, I can toss the euthanized babies into the woods behind my apartment. Something would eat them. (Great question.)

Not just hatchlings, mine also love "slugs" (infertile eggs lol). It's definitely not necessary to give them these things, but my female loves her egg "treats" that I supplement on top of giving her mice. :)

I just love the look of your MBK... been thinking of getting one myself. Since I have one king, I like how they are pretty easy to care for, like corns. Great pics of Maria! :D
