I recently acquired this beautiful lava female. I tried to snap a quick cell phone pic before putting her in her tub. She thanked me by biting as many times as she could manage.

The pic washes out her colors in the upper and lower left parts of the photo, she is a brilliant red all over with grayish purple borders. The lower half of her belly is pretty much solid red but isn't in the picture, so I'll take more when she is having a better day. As none of my lava males are ready to mate, I am considering pairing her with an orchid next season as she is possibly het for sunkissed.

 
Wow, what a stunner. She's got a great combination of genes. (And despite her attitude, she looks really sweet in that photo!)
 
Her previous owner said she had never bitten him except for during feeding time by mistake. I'm sure she just had a rough trip. I'll leave her alone for a week and then see how she does. But she acts like a cobra when I go to give her fresh water!
 
Looks great Dustin. Can't wait to see a good full body shot of her. BTW, good luck on proving her het SK !!

Thanks Walter. She is descended from ACR 2067 which proved het sunkissed, so her odds of being het SK are probably small. I may do a breeding loan with her since my males that are het/homo lava won't be ready this year.
 
I wasn't going to post this pic because I thought I could get a better one in her big tub, but she needs to simmer down for a week. When she came I had not sterilized her tub yet. Since she was actively biting me at the time I had to get her into SOMETHING so put her in this baby tub with some water (she wasted no time getting bedding in it, then defecating in it) while I cleaned her new one. I snapped this quick shot which shows her colors well. She thanked me for the large tub with more kisses.

 
She's awesome! Hopefully she mellows out for ya but if not.. I hear men like 'em feisty. :cool:

All joking aside though... most snakes seem to mellow out and get used to people with time, age, and handling, but there's always going to be those few that just refuse to be tamed. Of course generally they're the ones that are pretty enough to put up with! :p

Yeah, the temper doesn't really bother me, since corn bites don't hurt. But hopefully the males will pass their placid temperaments down to the babies :)

If you dont mind me asking Dux, how do breeding loans work typically? price? length of time? what happens if the eggs go bad? any guidlines?
