2013 Caramel Motley ("Hawthorne") Progression Thread

I really do love the color change that Caramels go through. Your post reminds me that I really should take and post pics of mine :D

He's lovely! I still think he's more likely to be a normal motley than a caramel motley, though, maybe with some yellowcoat / yellow jacket / yellow disease (whatever people want to call it) influence.

Hello, y'all. :) Thanks for all the kind comments on my last set of pics. No great pictures of Hawthorne today, just an update that he's finally been upgraded from a 5.5 gallon to a 30 gallon (big jump!). He's about two feet long now, so it was kind of overdue. It looks so bare, though!

As I said, no good pictures today, but here's one of my Instagram pictures from a few days ago giving me his hungry face. (This is the lower hole in the middle rock in the above picture of his setup.)

WOW he's turned out SUPER pretty. I LOVE this color in snake.

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but he looks like a Normal Motley het Caramel to me. Het Caramels definitely bring out some awesome Caramel esque colors, but he just has way too much red to be a Caramel.

Here are a few examples.

I do apologize if I'm wrong, your snake just really strikes me as a Normal Motley with the Caramel gene hidden in there. Also that's one of my favorite looks for a snake!! He's looking AMAZING in that last set. I might even like that look better than Caramel Motley. Thanks for sharing the photos. They are great shots!

I would have to agree that it looks like a Normal Motley most likely het Caramel. He is quite a stunning snake though.

Here is a pic of my female Normal Motley het Caramel. Can't notice the "het Caramel" like you can in your guy.

Here is my Male Caramel Motley.

For clarity, I have looked at tons of pictures and have concluded he's not a caramel (though definitely some kind of yellow factor or reduced red) but I can't edit the title of the thread. :p

Quick throwback to Hawthorne as a baby with another snake I assume is a sibling:

The other snake was identified as a butter motley. I'm guessing one of their parents must've had caramel in there somewhere, so het caramel makes perfect sense.

Nice! Yes, if that's a sibling your snake is definitely het Caramel. Het Caramels seem to have a Cretan look to them. ..a really nice one!!

That first picture does look more convincingly Caramel. The thing is snakes change A LOT in their first few years of life. If a shed later or so he started getting reds/ a red tint that is pretty normal in the corn snake world. I've definitely observed a few hatchling threads where the breeder thought they had something crazy and then... first shed reveals it's a different morph.

Like I said before though.. amazingly beautiful snake!!

The amel in the last pic is hard to tell if it is just amel or if it is butter (amel+caramel). It depends on how it developed red or yellow later.
The amel have rather orange blotches, not the brown blotches that butters use to have.

Here is a vid of a butter hatchling eating a pinkie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkkKlUZN3f0

Her is a pic of how butter hatchlings use to look (as I do think some "butter" hatchlings at Ians Viv is just amels to). This is how butter hatchlings use to look: http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/foru...128-corn-hatchlings-sale-county-durham-2.html
