2016 plans?

Well, hatchling season is just around the corner, and I have been thinking about what I can and cannot "accidentally" come home with from the shows this year. The first show isn't for another couple of weeks yet, but I gotta have these decisions made ahead of time! So for this year, I've picked a couple of awesome choices that the chances of me finding are ridiculously low. I might be safe. We'll see.

My plan is to let the corn babies mature a little bit before deciding what other morphs I want, since I can't have them all I need to see if my opal matures to pink or white, how much yellow my ultramel anery develops, how diffused my fire turns out, etc, before I decide whether to add a white morph or a yellow one, and so on. So no more corns for this year. Or kings.

What I have decided I CAN come home with are the following:
Black Milk Snake
African house snake of a different morph or subspecies
Sonoran gopher snake... maaaaaaybe a cape gopher (I'm not sure I'd particularly know the difference if it were mislabeled anyway)

Feel free to comment on my choices, but what I really want to know is,
what new morphs or species are you thinking about looking for this year?

I don't know much about pits, but black milks are super cool, and a house snake is definitely on my wishlist. Holding out for a hypo green.

There's a local guy selling a young male whiteout for $100. I'm debating if it's worth getting and trying to find a matching female. I never see whiteouts for that cheap, and always seem to see people wanting them. Otherwise I'm waiting for diamonds to hatch out at ProCorns and after that I'm hoping to hold off til next year. The exception might be if Zulu proves to be ultra...then I will probably get her a nice amel something.

Ooh, the greens are amazing!! I reeeeealllly want a green, but unless I'm willing to import, I would bet I won't see a green for 10 years. The only housies I've seen around here are normal and T- albino cape house snakes. I've never even seen a brown/fuliginosus, never mind other color morphs. We have a long way to go.

I can't even talk about corn morphs. I want one of each. That's totally realistic, right?

Throw hypo in the mix and you have a snake that looks like it's carved from jade. I imagine it'll be a while before I can get my hands on one.

Only one of each? I want a pair!

Yes. Yes, it is. :grin01:

I was originally going to say I have no plans to acquire any new noodle worms for at least a year. Then I realized I was lying. If that caramel tessera comes up for a good price I will have a new snake, and if by any chance a Thai bamboo rat or a pied sided corn or a particularly adorable ball python (this one could be dangerous, my daughter works at a small local pet store that keeps getting new balls in, I may have told her to keep an eye out) comes around and is within the budget (give or take several times the actual budget of course) then I will have a new snake.

Even if I have to start evicting people to fit them in ... :dgrin:

There were some caramel motleys that were a bit different looking that I had a really hard time saying no to last year. I'm afraid if I see another one of those or a golddust or a blizzard this year... or an anery tessera... or a... yup, you know how it goes. Forget about evicting people, I'm going to have to GET a roommate just to support my snake habit!!

I've been eyeing the pinks! Salmon or opal or a poppycorn pinky. What's your favorite pink?

I'm an opal fan. I've seen some pretty amazing pink snows online, but I've seen some really... um... not so pretty ones too. The only issue with opals is they sometimes lose their color as they mature, but since I also want a white snake, I knew I'd be happy either way. My opal stripe boy is gorgeous, I love him to death. It doesn't hurt that he's so laid back and calm either.

Something I'd like to work towards eliminating is the tendency for salmon snows to turn...well, salmon! The brightest pink juveniles seem to turn orange-hued over time. I have some theories on how to start working back towards true pink.

If snows were guaranteed to stay that powder pink that you see sometimes, I probably would have gotten one instead of my opal. He's actually a little bit salmony as well. But I still love him. :)

If I was going to do a breeding project, I think I'd like to try breeding anerys (aneries?) that stay black, and try for darker and darker ground colors. I know other people have tried to breed a blacker corn, but I have not heard anything about their progress, or if they ever made any.
