A different kind of critter is taking residence in my apartment.

Here is its mug shots

Appears to me to be a House Centipede (someone needs to tell it, that it is in an apartment not a house lol). Although I'm not very knowledgeable on bugs, so I may be wrong.

Now I have something in my apartment to make me jump 10 feet lol <<< irrationally scared of bugs.

What bugs have you found in your place of residence?

I believe that is actually an alien.

But really, appears to be a house centipede!! I found one once and thought it was the coolest thing ever.

As far as things residing in my house... I find creatures that I used to feed my lizard... Long ago. Like roaches.

Omg and you're right, it is a house centipede, first time I saw one a couple years ago it was on my mans arm and we both were freaked out. Harmless as it may be, now I understand how some people fear our beloved snakes lol.

I will go down in history as a person who made contact with aliens :D

It was pretty cool. Although I did jump the first time I saw it.

I've only seen roaches at expos, never in the wild. I'm sure my jump height would increase to 20 feet though.

Well that centipede sure knew how to introduce itself! lol Yeah my father is terrified of snakes. At best, he would only look at Anck Su Namun (which come to think of it, that wasn't too bright to have the first snake shown to my father also be my largest ). Everyone has something they are afraid of.

lol Chris was like "Honey... what is this and will it kill me...?" He's from Oregon and still getting used to NC's insect life. Our apparently huge bumble bees and wolf spiders to name a few. I've almost lived here my whole life and never seen one until then. Thank goodness it doesn't look like your typical centipede, for some reason they make me want to toss my cookies. Still goes in the top five of freaky bugs that make me uncomfortable.

Ah, house centipedes. Never encountered one myself, but a friend of mine had one is his shower. He thought it was a knot of hair. Until it moved...onto his foot.

Definitely a house centipede. I found one not too long ago and thought it was the strangest looking bug I'd ever seen. I killed it immediately.

When I googled "scary looking missouri insects", google knew exactly what I was talking about.

Some of the "reviews" at the bottom cracked me up.

Ohhh, house centipedes. I used to live in a townhouse that was full of these guys. I guess we had a lot of pest insects around, so these creepers would turn up everywhere--I used to wake up to them hanging out directly above me on the ceiling. I know they look pretty terrifying, but, like snakes, they're a good natural source of pest control. That said, I definitely prefer the (much slower!) spiders I live with nowadays.

Oh Hell No!! I can handle most bugs. Centipedes, of any kind, are a big, fat burn your house down to kill it kind of thing. The house centipede isn't as freaky as the common ones, it is still icky.

Both are icky, yucky but I can handle the silverfish.

Another icky bug is the earwig :puke:

Now lets see if all my linking and such works... if not I apologize now LOL No edit button!

Eeewwww I hate those! At my last job, I was carrying a box that had just came in on our weekly truck. Apparently, so did one of those centipedes. The gross thing fell down the slit of the polo shirt uniform and right down into... erm a particular article of clothing. I freaked out so bad that I dropped the box and started fanning my shirt like an idiot. And there was a customer standing right behind me.

I tend to get a lot of what I call sprickets cause they look like a spider-cricket hybrid.

gahhh!

gross, yes that's a house centipede and they freak me out!!!!
I have only ever seen one in my house but I flipped out!

goodness, I can do snakes but any type of centipede or small spider just gives me the willies!

I should know better than to check this thread while I'm eating. Centipedes and grub worms make me want to be physically sick for some reason. The house centipede not so much. But now you got me thinking about it. ( Every time I read "here is its mug shots" I laugh, every single time)

WHY WOULD YOU DEDICATE A THREAD TO THIS EVIL

House centipede? Around here, I just call them... "them". I don't get *too* many interesting bugs in this part of New York, your garden variety spiders and isopods and whatnot, but holy crap. These things.:awcrap:

I've never encountered these outside, not once! It's ALWAYS in my house somewhere. If one's lurking about and I turn on the lights, they go running across the floor like demon torpedoes of death:flames::flames:. Never was harmed by one, but if people are afraid of corn snakes and arachnids, then I'm allowed one irrational fear too!

Oh, I have seen one of those aforementioned "sprickets" though. It was outside, I found it fascinating.

Hopefully the pic will work but hubby found this guy in the garage. It's just a wolf spider. :)
