A few birds

Maybe someone would like to see avian pix, just this once? I have a house full of parrots--mostly macaws. This morning I took a pic of 3 of them--my Hyacinth male, Mikey Blue; my Scarlet female, Rowan; and my Capri (3rd gen hybrid--7/8s Scarlet, 1/8th Blue & gold) male, The Incomparable Bowie. Mikey is a camera ham, so there are 3 pix of him, and only one of Bo and Ro. So here they are:

Wow you have a Hyacinth?

That's a serious investment!!! They are so gorgeous!

These are my guys although they are now at my sisters house since I had to move where I could not keep them. The landlord is cool with snakes and small dogs, but not birds. Go figure.

Geez--you have 2 pi's, and your landlord complains about them? They're one of the quietest, most pleasant birds I've met. Tell him to talk to me. I'll give those two a good reference--or at least the Blue Headed Pionus. Those white caps can be gabby--I have a friend with one and he NEVER seems to shut up! He's not noisy about it, though--just constantly has to say something or he's not happy :). That little GCC, though--well, you know how it is with conures :). I have 2. I could have had dozens by now. Most people can't handle their screeches. Heck, I can barely handle our Jenday, Mango's, screeches! Our Sun, Petey McSweet, is downright quiet next to Mango.

Yes, I have a Hy. Mikey Blue was a birthday present from my husband a few years ago. We'll be paying THAT loan off for quite some time, yet :). He's a fantastic, funny, gentle, friendly bird, though, and worth every cent. Someday, years from now, he'll probably get a girlfriend of his species, but I'm in no hurry. Raising Hy babies isn't easy, and they have a high mortality rate.

Good eye good eye :crazy02: Was wondering if you would be able to tell right off the bat what they were...minus the GCC of course haha! But yes tell me about it with how quiet they are! I miss having them on their perches in the shower with me sooo much!! I would spray them with water and they would stretch their wings out and jump up and down and talk to me like no other!!! And after the shower they look hilarious until they dry out again haha!! But the landlord just isn't a birdy fan for the most part. I go see them all the time though and they are super happy with my sis! The GCC is Bill, the Blue Head's name is Jynx, and the White Cap, his name is Box :D

Wow that would be amaaaazing if you were able to breed some Hy's!!! You could pay off those loans real quick!! But yeah, such a heartbreaking thing with the little youngins that dont make it though :awcrap:

Ya know, there's a reason I don't breed dogs, birds, whatever. It's 'cause I would never be able to give up the babies! LOL! Still, with the comparative rarity of the Hy species, one almost feels a responsibility to breed them when they're old enough, and provided they don't carry any diseases or deformities.

Now, talk about rare--Lear's. I WISH I could get my hands on a pair of those! I doubt I'll ever have a pair. I can't find ANY available in the pet trade, they're so rare.

And Spix's are adorable little blue-grey clowns, but either Peru or the Sheik owns all of them, so I'm thinkin' I'll never get my hands on one of those, either :).

One thing I AM keeping my eye out for, though, is a domestically-bred mutation called the Opaline B&G. So far, they only seem available abroad (Thailand, perhaps?), and I've heard that the owner of most of them has been offered enough money to fund the GNP of a small country--and refused to sell them. But I imagine they'll hit the market in the next decade or so--hopefully, before I'm too old to handle the macaws anymore :).

oOOOooooh! Very pretty. Love that blue hue.
My family found an African Grey flying around cold and wet outside in the early winter a few years ago. Looked like he had been out a while and flew down to my sister while she was out walking around on a Golf Course, where she works. They took him in (luckly had a good sized empty cage at their house) and he sure is a character. They named him Hank- and he is also the most obnoxious bird I've ever had the luck of associating with. He imitates the most irritating sounds and words just to annoy people and the thing is, he does it intentionally!!!! Also, he says things like "Bring me a beer B*tch"; "Why don't you leave and go back to your booyyyfriend" and randomly tells people to shut up. I've been wondering how old he is... AND about the family that owned him before mine!!! Very interesting parrot.

I am with you there! Very hard to give up your babies!!! But yeah that makes sense almost to the point of it being your duty to expand them if its in your means.

And you aint making life easy on yourself wanting all the rarest of the rares there haha!!

Truuue truuuue true

I am eying my Lamborghini at the dealer every day:rolleyes:

LOL! I'm constantly looking at a little blue Cobra with white racing stripes that's on display in a local dealership, myself :). Not the Shelby Cobra, mind you, the little one with no top. I don't want a repro, mind you. I want the original :). My husband is more into the "little deuce coupe" types.

Or a Morgan. Or a pre or post-war MG. Or one of those cute little Triumphs. Maybe a nice red Ferrari would be about right. I dunno--so many good cars, so little money. You prolly know how that goes :). So I'll just be happy with the '64 1/2 Mustang my hubby bought for me for Christmas one year, and count my blessings.

Lovely birds!! I love parrots. Those are gorgeous macaws, especially the hyacinth. I don't think I have the time for a macaw, but they sure are gorgeous. I have a GCC and a budgie.

Markus, I love your pionus' too! I've been wanting a blue headed pi for a long time.

WOW, beautiful Macaws!

I used to live in Miami and Parrot Jungle let most of their Macaws free fly and interbreed. I was there one time and saw a solid yellow Macaw, it was amazing.

I have a Hahn's Macaw, Red Belly Parrot and two Parrotlets.

Yeah, macaws are kind of high maintenance. They'd do well in reality shows on tv because they're such drama queens :). I love their loud, flamboyant personalities and looks. I can't say I'm QUITE as enamored of their mess-making expertise, but what the hey. It goes with the territory!

If I ever give up on big macaws and screechy little conures, I'd like a nice, calm blue headed pionus. Z wants a Blue Front Amazon, so I'm always keeping a lookout for the perfect bird for him.
