A few noodles came home today.

Some of you might know that Heather at Mystic Exotics and I had a loan worked out for a couple of projects including some palmetto fun. This was before I was sure I would be able to breed at home for a few years still. Unfortunately some life circumstances have led to her downsizing a bit, as you may have seen from recent sale posts, and so Nova and Alpha have come home now along with a future mate for Alpha, a sunkissed named Emori. :)

Alpha is a bit underweight and was thin upon arriving in the Pacific Northwest. He had a regurge that set him back further, so we haven't yet pushed him to gain. I'm hoping to convince him to eat reptilinks, since I've had a lot of success with weight gain on them.

November (Nova for short) is an orchid from Steve Roylance. She'll be going into a few fun projects when she's up to size.

Emori is a sunkissed, also from Steve Roylance, with unknown hets. Hoping for some surprises down the road.

Wow, gorgeous! Palmettos are definitely one of my favourite corn morphs, so I am rather jealous XD

I could have bought so many more snakes for the same price, but I just had to have a palmie. Truth is, I'm still paying for him...took out a small loan at the Bank o' Boyfriend lol! I'm going to feed tonight and see about taking new pics in a few days. They should all be pretty hungry now.

I was hoping to find something that might alter the pattern of Palmettos, and if anything will it could be sunkissed. I'd like to try sunkissed cinder eventually as well, but orchids always had my favorite colors, so Nova will also be a future mate for Alpha unless I come up with better plans for her. Cayenne may also be in her future, and with her het amel I'll have some killer project animals for sale then.

I always thought palmetto was a bit like piebald in a cat (for instance) in that it mostly covers everything beneath it in a blanket of white leaving only a few 'holes' of the underneath color showing through, but that was just an assumption on my part; perhaps pattern modifying genes could alter the palmetto pattern!

If that is the case, I wonder what a palmetto tessera would look like? I tried googling it but all I get was ordinary looking palmettos, which means either a) there aren't any around or b) they look just like regular palmettos!

Having thought about it, palmetto must be more complex than just a blanket of white since in individuals with rather larger non-white patches, the skin doesn't look like ordinary corn pattern. Hmm....

The mutation is akin to leucism (hence the blue eyes in the "normal" palmetto form) and will most likely work with only color (albino, caramel, lavender, anery types, hypo types, and combinations thereof) mutations, making it essentially a 1 trick pony, much like the blizzard and murphy's patternless mutations in leopard geckos.

Maybe some day I'll have a Palmetto.

So much this!!! These are definitely on my "need" list lol...who picked up Don's palms? I don't remember, and now am unsure where to even get one at this point lol

Travis Whisler is the main contact, and I'm under the impression John Stolz is working with Travis.

I've not met Travis, to my knowledge, but John's a pretty awesome guy. Great to chat with at shows and owns a nice herp and fish shop up in KS.

Exactly, it's very likely it will not react with sunkissed. Tesseras have probably already been produced (they'll have to be trial bred to be sure) with no discernable difference. Color variations will probably be the limit, though I belive they will look quite stunning with lavender + hypo-type combos or salmon snows.
