A few of the watersnake

:laugh: you just about made me die! I actually just experienced something similar this past August I went to Jamaica for my grandmothers 85th birthday, and yeah us Canadians arnt cut out for that kind of heat! 3 of us had heat stroke and the rest all blistered! and that was with spf 100 sunblock!

neadless to say were not designed to handle that sort of heat!! :p

LOL - Yes if Jamaica gave you problems you definitely don't want to go to Texas in summer. We go to Jamaica to cool off. :realhot:

But here are the serious facts. Jamaica enjoys a fairly consistent year round temp.Hence the "tropical paradise". The fact is that the temperature just doesn't vary that much and it is the comfort zone. I have had a neighbor die from heat stroke. Actually South Padre is not that bad for reasons I will get into shortly. The real killers are mid Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

Here's why I think you had problems in Jamaica and a few observations. The reason Texas weather is so brutal is that we are in the middle of N and S America. (As are Arizona and New Mexico).Jamaica is an island country surrounded by the great equalizer-an ocean. It gets pretty dameded cold here in the winter sometimes because the wind is out of the north. Gee- thanks Canada have you got something else more useful you would li
Then in the summer we get wind out of the south bringing us all that South American heat.:devil01::flames:

But Jamaica has a beautiful year round clime. You didn't say how hot it was but I'd.guess under 90° and certainly less than 100°f. South Padre Island doesn't get as hot as here ( ocean waters and all...)

But there is only 8° of seperation in (lattitude? ...N/South) between S.Padre and Jamaica, there are @ 32° between Jamaica and Ontario. The fiersness of the sun as that angle decreases is substantial. It might not bother you standing next to a hearing a heat lamp at a fast food joint but UNDER one?

You know- I got to thinking. ..(never a good thing. ..).....which is the most deadly place to live? The Australian outback is world renown for the dangers involved. The Great North andAAlaska can kill you quickly in winter. But I wonder how Texas biker bars match up.

Crocodile Dundee gets a knife pulled on him in New York city. The girl with him says give him what he wants. Crock o poop replies"why"? To which little miss innocent replies-" because he has a knife! ....) "KNIFE-that's not a knife"- replies crotchety dungarees-and pulls out a Bowie knife (ironic...apologies to Jim)...cuts the guy-scene over.

Same scenario-Texas biker bar: Guy pulls knife- gimmie your Fng money. Girl-better give it to him. ...Crockacrap dumbdee: "why?" Girl to dumbdee-( whispering in ear... in case you haven't noticed- there's some rough dudes in here and you are outnumbered- besides. ... he's got a knife. ..."KNIFE? ...Ats not a knife- THIS is a knife !!- At which point two bikers shoot him dead and head for the bar while four others escort the lady to the back room to get better aquainted. The two at the bar toast each other and one says to the other: / isn't that just like a dumb Australian to bring a knife to a gunfight? :uzi:

ahahaha! too funny,
it was 117 f the one day that we asked a local.. and he said it gets hottet near the end of summer..
neadless to say I didn't ask what the temp was again for the week I was their.

it's gorgeous, but theirs no snakes boo!! and was just f-ing hot for me!

and as for which contry I think deadliest?
my votes for Australia, they used to send prisoners their a looong time ago as a sort of Alcatraz .. O_O

I'm not cutout for heat....never have been. I'm perfectly happy in snow in a pocket tee but hate the heat. Unfortunately my job requires me to work outside 365.....happily...winter is coming and the days are already cooling! Hooray!!! And while every state may have snakes...some have fewer than others.....I'm happy to say that our state is chock full of herps! Love it! Even if you don't live here Justine....you can still come visit!

you know what!?

I was totally just thinking that I want my next vacation to be in the states!
either SC, NC, or Texas!! I WILL go herpping in the states one day!! :D

It doesn't get that hot in SC.....it's more humid at times...and I imagine jamaica is also humid. The humidity is what gets me. California got temps in the 100's when I lived there but it was dry desert heat....oven hot but you sweat and cool that way. Here, you sweat and it just stays.....however, finding a bunch of snakes makes up for it! You come to SC and visit. You can stay in the guest room with a couple of snakes and we can run to Augusta to hunt or my friends 2000 acres of woods or any of the other state parks here and hunt. Maybe I can even get my friend to take us down to Jasper county and hunt cornsnakes near the old Okeettee Hunt club! It's only a couple of hours away.

oh how my dreams could come true! aha,

now I just need to get the boyfriend into it!
lol he's wanted to go somewhere for awhile, I don't think the states was what he had in mind, but I'm sure I could change his mind eventually.. ;)

its next to impossible for me to find snakes here, maybe I'm just a poor beeper though! lol

You have a nifty collection, Meg. I always enjoy your posts, I would love to see more of your snail eater!

Bi-species Fest, Meg? Chondro/GuttatusFest 2014? Drag Trooper and Romano out for belly flop contests?

That would be Awesome!!! There would have to be pictures to hold over Trooper and Romano's heads though....can't picture Trooper Walsh doing belly flops....but stranger things have happend! I'm thinking Aaron Florian would do it though.....Kathy Love can officiate! Bill can judge and photograph.....

I'm scared to think what it would be like with both Aaron and gelshark combined at such an event. I'm thinking mass comedic chaos. :D
