Took a few photos of the babies the other day. I'd really like to get them outside for a real shoot, but the weather has been crappy. I've got two babies that are being stubborn about feeding. They only took one meal and then have been basically flipping me off after that. I'm going to try live tomorrow. They are pretty hefty babies though, weighing in around 20-24 grams. Not bad for only being a month old and some only having one meal.

And momma. took her out for the first time today and she was very good. Not aggressive at all. She weighed in at 464 grams. Needs to put a little more on, but doesn't look bad at all. She's eating very well and is being fed weekly right now.

Although... if you keep showing them ... you just might have to send one of them my way.;)
 
Actually, that's not the original orange one that stood out from the rest. That one is quite orange though. There are several very similar to it. It's hard to get their true colors with a flash, even when it's bounced. I NEED SUNLIGHT! Number 2, the really orange one, has taken 3 meals now. It was a slow starter, but seems to be catching on. That first tiger striped one and the last one are the holdouts. Believe it or not, the 24 gram baby is the last one who's only taken one meal. I'm looking forward to their next shed. I think more of their color will come out.

I wondered if it was the same one. Be sure to post some photos as they grow and change.

I decided to keep 1.1 of my babies. I will try to post some new photos of them after the holidays.
 
Absolutely stunning! Hope the naughty ones turn around for you soon. Just as a thought,would finch chicks ( from zebra or society finches) maybe work if they won't take mice?
 
I think the chicks would be too large for them. I might try scenting with chick down if necessary though. I'll try live, scent with lizard again and try that. I'll even try a piece of raw chicken. We'll see what happens.
Kathy: I'll be posting more pictures as they mature. It's going to be hard not to keep them all. They are sooo cute! Little tails wrapped around your pinky finger makes them irresistible! My favorite one that I'm thinking about holding back is the first one in the picture with the striping. That one is one of the "I ain't gonna eat that" one. May be keeping it to try to get it to eat!
 
They are just incredible. I like the first and last ones the best. I _bet_ mom is still recovering- that was a lot of babies!!
 
It's actually a small litter of babies for an amazon, but about average for a first time import mom. Many breeders find that the cbb animals have larger litters for some reason. I'm content though. She made it thru a long trip to me from Florida, stopped eating for around 2 months before giving birth and then had 6 healthy, large babies and no slugs/stillborns. Good job for her. She looks pretty good right now. Definitely not at full weight but certainly recovering well. It won't be long until she's on the bi-weekly feeding schedule of the rest of the non-breeders.
 
Dumb question- they eat birds in the wild? I bet bird scenting might work, then! You need a nice dove. I wonder if they are like graybands- such big babies that it takes a while to get hungry.
 
They do take birds and scenting with chick down can do the trick sometimes. I'm going to try the easier stuff first though. Even the ones that have had only one meal weigh 20 grams or more, so they have a long way to go to starving. I'll try live, and then I'll try raw chicken. We'll see how that goes. Otherwise, I've got to find some chickens...maybe down the road....

Although I have had great luck with bird scenting on the few baby chondros I ever had, neonate ATBs seem more focused on lizards in the wild (at least the ATBs native to the islands, as noted in Henderson's books). So if live doesn't work (it usually does, if the mice are old enough to run around a little), then lizard scenting may help more than birds. But you never know what each little guy wants - sometimes you have to try multiple things, just like with corns.
 
*drools* So purdy... don't know how I missed this thread when you first posted it. Sure hope the rest of them start eating for you.

You know, I almost wish they'd stay that nice reddish orange color. Very clean - though, they do look gorgeous as adults too.

Actually, those orange ones without any black should stay like that. Katari, my first amazon is still pure orange. I'll take some updated photos of him soon-weather permitting-as he just shed. Number 5 took a live amazon rat pinky last night. Haven't had a chance to check on number 1 yet.
