A few updates

Well... I officially have way more snakes than ever... *le sigh*... I would complain more if I wasn't so happy about it

So... thought I'd share some updates...

I have a new pair of Albino Gopher snakes... Awesome critters.

My Amazon Tree Boas went through really difficult times... they both regurgitated white matter... and one of them got a huge swell in her lower abdomen... out of the two colorful ATB's I had... one passed away.
The other though, despite the swelling, thanks to vet treatment(and injections I had to give at home... not an easy task on an ATB) she pulled through and is looking awesome.

And a new Boa!
0.1 Central American Hypo Motley poss het all kinds of neat traits:

Beautiful critters - especially the ATB! So sorry you lost one. I have never heard of exactly that problem. Did the vet know the cause? What kind of injections did you have to give? I am always curious about various problems and their cures that actually work for future reference. Hope the other one continues to do great for you!

Hey Kathy!
Well... both exhibited different symptoms...
The yellow one regurgitated white mucus every few hours... she passed away before we could get a diagnosis.

The issue with the red ATB was slightly different- she had a very serious swell for over a month that would not pass. She refused food and all in all wasn't in the best of shape. Under the microscope, from a tiny sample, we saw tons of parasites and bacteria...
He gave me 10 synergies usually used by diabetics... that's the only needle I could possibly use on the frontal 1/3 part of an ATB's body(you know how little room for mistake you have there!)

The name of the Antibiotics Ceftazidime, AKA Fortum.
Had to give very small dosage every 3 days... I then gave her around 7 CC of Saline to hydrate her since this Antibiotics can harm the kidneys... I also left her for 30 minutes in shallow water after every such shot.

Slowly, she started pooping bit by bit a very congealed matter... but by bit everything passed through, the swelling receded and disappeared... and she's now back on a feeding schedule.

We could not pin point the exact cause of the problem aside from assuming it's parasites(we tested and made sure it wasn't Crypto)- Flagyl didn't do anything to assist, and neither did the oral version for Baeytril.

That sounds really weird! Sounds like there were a number of different kinds of parasites and bacteria, but localized in a particular area of the gut? Glad the treatment worked and the snake is much better now!

Thanks everyone. Overseas shipments, especially if delayed, tend to really mess the animals up. Arboreal animals are more susceptible than others... All well that ends eell I suppose

Where do you usually have them shipped from? Are there many snake/reptile keepers in Israel?

There's a fair amount of keepers... Naturally not nearly as many as in the US since, demographically speaking, wer'e a far smaller population. This particular inport came from Germany I think. I do not personally import reptiles... There are a few who do so and I buy if I want something that arrived. And thanks all :)
