A Lava Motley!!

Glenbrooks

Finally after several years of breeding to get this specific snake! In the clutch I got some Lavas, some Ice, some motleys, and finally (the last egg to hatch from 2 clutches) this Lava Motley!

I have one more clutch to hatch, but they will all be some form of anery. So I am hoping for an Ice Motley!

All God's Best,
Glen

Awesome!! Wow what a cutie! Hey Glen, you're from Folsom? That's close to my home town. I used to work at the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary. Will you be coming to the Sactown Reptile Show in Sept?

Oh that is so sweeet! Motleys are my biggest population of corns and I had considered working on my own lava motley project. Congrats on a great hatchling and good luck in the future. :)

I will be at the Sacramento Show in Sept. It is the only show I get to most years.

I will post more pics after a shed. The pattern on must of these motleys is somewhat aztec looking. I am wondering if the Lava gene is fooling around with the pattern? Anyway I think it looks great.

i was thinking that, but either way i bet its gonna be smoking once the 1st shed has been done

None of the parents or grandparents of this snake had ANY Aztec type pattern. The Grandparent who was motley was a very normal motley. But most of the motley hatchlings have a more aztec type pattern.
Here are a couple of examples: (siblings to the LavaMotley)

Nice job...there are NOT many of those out there....well at least not outside of my collection. ;)

Congrats on a sweet hatchling! And don't wonder about the pattern as that is very typical of motleys. It's the striped variation (NOT related to the stripe gene) of motley, sometimes called pin-striped. There are also Q-tipped and hurricane and any combination in between.

Here is a picture of the Lava Motley after the first shed. Also a Lava and a shy Ice. Sadly no Ice Motleys this year.

Super nice! Is the belly clear?

Jeff,
Yes the belly is perfectly white. I have the advantage of knowing the genetics pretty well since I aquired this clutch's "grandparents" (both the lava and the motley) from Joe Pierce as hatchlings. It is interesting to see the different motley patterns I got from 3 different females. Some perfect dots all the way down the body, some complete "wide stripes" down the whole body, but most some combination of the two.

I would love to see a picture of your adult or sub adult Lava/Ice motleys. I still have never seen a picture of anything but hatchlings.

I was just wondering on the belly as I've popped up a few motley mimics that have the motley pattern much like yours but have fully checkered bellies.

Yeah...I should probably post updated pics one of these days.....
