A little story.. : )

My neice wears all black which scares the family. I realize that some children go for shock in order to get attention. Maybe, if you can't talk with your Mom, maybe you should find a school counsellor or pastor and try to find out why you "crave shock". Did you get into corns for the same reason - the shock value from other people.

You could be the next Stephen King but in your personal life you need to tone down some. :-offtopic Sorry, I'm probably sounding like your Mum.

Just know the difference between fantasy and real life. And, it's cooler to get back at bullies by non-violent ways. When I was in school I would smile and say Hi to the ones who bullied me. Drove them crazy because they didn't know what I was thinking and they were paranoid about what I might do to get even with them. What they didn't understand was that I was getting even with them by being nice and doind nothing. But I guess it's different for boys.

Ummm, Yea i agree, but the way i'm i really like, i love shock, its amazing, dont you love the feeling of tingles in your belly? being scared? and shocked? anyways, i do speak to my mum, she understands everything well, school, well i would ask them for everything, its law to go to school, so its law to go to a place were you get spat at, kicked, hit, chewing gum in ya clothes of people, and i like your advise, but if i smiled at somone who bullied me, id have no teeth left lol, thanks for your advise though mate : ) i think i just wana work somwere that promotes shock, like a horror film cast :p

I got Damien, because i seen Steve irwin get bit by one on tv, Damien Struk at me once, and i felt so shocked/scared w/e and it was awesome lol, now you may think i'm sounding strange, but if we were alone in a room, we could have one of the most adult convosations ever, my teachers always speak to me before the rest of the class gets in and we have really nice convosations, then they say - Oh you change when your in a room full of people, its because i'm scared.. seriously, my nerves are really bad, i cant go to full places, i hate people behind me unless i'm with somone i trust, and i cant sit in circles for school... i do have alot of problems, but i'm not mental, dont need a phycologyst, i'm perfectly aware the stuff i like is considerd wrong in todays world.. like when i started here.. people treated me abit like a kid, and i didnt stand for it, i think alot of people realised i can be grown up, and i love this community!

: )

Excellent post, Dean. If only I could rep you ;)

George, there's nothing necessarily wrong with writing or describing violence - many films, books, even episodes of Eastenders (;)) have a base in violence. I don't think anyone's trying to say you must write about a family of fluffy bunnies - just to be careful how and why the writing comes across.

I'm sorry you get bullied - when I was in school I suffered from bullying too, which left me with a few problems of my own, so I do know how you feel in a way. I just think you need to understand that all you need to do is be yourself - I guess it sounds cliche, but you don't need to write gore fics to make yourself heard. It sounds to me like your writing is your outlet.

Here's something to consider mate - if you think the stories are a product of being bullied, and you'd rather write something else, why not write something nice, because it's a product of bullying? If the bullies make you angry, think of it like getting back at them. They're not going to make you angry - you're in control. No, you're not going to translate your day of bullying on to paper - you're going to write something else because they can't dictate to you what you feel or who you are. Of course if you write them for your own enjoyment, disregard what I just said...

I'm sorry if I've misread you or I'm not making sense - it's been a long day at work and I'm kinda rambly tonight. If you want to discuss anything I said in detail, shoot me a PM. :)

I don't mean to come across as unsupportive, George, but these are disturbing themes. If my child was drawing rape scenes, and writing stories that indicated a morbid obsession with death and murder, I'd get help for him. Sometimes people who suffer from these obsessions start blurring the lines between their fantasies and reality. Guys like Stephen King apparently kept to one side of the line, but for every Stephen King, there are probably hundreds or thousands of incarcerated or institutionalized (or executed) people who couldn't keep the boundaries straight.

Also, there are ways of exploring these themes without resorting to "in-your-face" shock value. If you don't feel that bullying, rape, and murder should be glorified, then don't do it in your writing. If you feel that they SHOULD be glorified, then seek help.

I think it may be best for you to tone down your literary submissions in this forum. I'm not saying that you've crossed the line... yet, but I'd like to warn you before you head in that direction. One of the most critical considerations for an author is to know his audience. Here, you have corn snake enthusiasts of all ages and sensibilites. Maybe you could re-direct your creative impulses toward stories that would appeal to the group as a whole. How about a Damien escape adventure, written from his perspective?

Please give this post some thought, my friend.

I am very glad you wrote this Dean. I wouldn't have been quite so....well yeah, you said it :sobstory:

*officially creeped out by a 14 year old*

I'd agree that bullying can have long-lasting effects for the rest of your life, but it's a real victory if you use it as a creative spur to make yourself excel at something. You said before how you were bullied and made afraid of snakes, so the fact that you have overcome that to become Damien's caring owner is a triumph in itself. The fact that you are also so interested in finding out more about snakes, and participating in this forum is brilliant.
You made some 'wrong moves' when you first joined, then publically apologised and made a fresh start. I just hope over the years your caring, questing side gets expressed more, George, because the contrast makes you a very interesting person IMO

It saddens me to hear that you are bullied so much. I was the only Native American in a school of white kids so I know what being bullied is all about. Each person was dealt with differently until they stopped. Now, here in the States kids are supposed to be able to talk with the teachers and there would be some sort of mediation/conference between all involved. Children should not have to live with being bullied.

Just hang in there.

As for being shocked; I guess I'm getting to the age that it sickens me rather than thrills me. I was never into shock - not as a kid, not as an adult.

Sorry to say but you are probably a "product" of our society. (I am not insulting you, degrading you or talking down to you.) This is the reason why I say this (and I know this has nothing to do with corn snakes EXCEPT you are someone who has a corn snake and cares for a corn snake). When I was growing up the worse horror films were "Them" (giant ants attacking) or "Count Dracula" (with Bela Lagosi) or "Frankenstein (with Boris Karloff) or even films with Vincent Price. Extremely tame by todays standards. We had to use our mind to see blood and guts because the Film Censors certainly would not let it be shown on the film. Todays films such as "Chucky", "Jason", "Nightmare on Elm St" would not have been filmed, let alone showed when I was growing up. That's why I say you are a product of our society.

Just know the difference between real life and imanagary; take good care of your corn snakes and follow your dreams. For all the horror Stephen King has written he is still a gentle caring family man.

Thank you for all your loverly comments and advise : )

I write something a little more confusing but a lot less disturbing...

Just Because You Cant See It, Does Not Mean Its Not There! - By George

There Is no stronger bond then a boy and his mother, she brought him up, fed him, and she stood by him throughout all the troubles in his life, so, when it comes to that time, the time of death, the boy feels torn apart, except he’s not a boy anymore he’s a man, one that cannot do anything about the cruel nature of life, To Create something that would communicate with his mother would be his goal, but to communicate with her alone would be a trouble, there are many evil spirits out there, waiting day and night for a window to allow them back to earth, it would be the boy that would open the gates and create this window, the evil spirits along with the nice one’s would escape and cause many pain and happiness in the world, sending it off-track from what the original got intended!

Happiness Is man-made!
Pain Is Man-Made!

But were did man learn to do such things.

Now that's a nice story. It lets us use our imagination as to what will happen.

The Jail - By George.

You could hear the echos of Screams All around the Hidden Castle, And The Tour, Slamming each door behind him, was a Grim old man, missing fingers, and teeth, long greasy hair, and a glass eye to his left, I knew that what I was about to see would haunt me for many years, I knew that people who have been locked up for most of there life, no fault of there own, would be on the edge of insanity! I was about too meet the prisoners of war.

The Stairs Felt like they forever carried on, And each floor was another guard, with another door to slam open!
Finally we arrived at the first set of jails, The Tour Stood Still, “Your on your own now sir, Goodluck” Then he laughed a very evil scary one too!

As I walked down the Hall, 2 jails eather side of me, I could smell them, I could hear them chanting, “War changes you” There jails tiny, with no bed, just straw, and in the corner was a pot, overflowing with human waste, Each one was skinny, and as I got deeper down the hall, they were trying to grab me, smiling at me, this was not were I wanted to be…

To be Continued.
