Im so sad my poor Corn snake (Gracie) has escaped, hes 3ft in length. Any ideas, I have carpet in my bedroom where I keep him so flour on the floor is not an option...

My room is the warmest room in the house so Im hoping hes used his brain and has stayed in their as outside we have three cats!! ( oh yeah and I darent tell my parents, they'll go nuts)

So guys anyone with ideas.......

startin lookin every dark and warm.. or get up on a desk somewhere in the room and be really quiet for a while an keep an eye out, might wanna cut out tha lights also..I heard of using a plastic bag works well.. Lay some plastic bags out in the room, cut the lights off an hide.. You'll hear em if he comes on tha bags..

litle story with tips.

Well my infamous Amel cornsnake Harley has escaped twice.

First time when Harley was about 4-5 months old. He got out and took off for about 3-4 weeks. I searched high and low and didn't find him anywhere. One day I was feeding him counter part, an anery the same age, and I placed the ziplock baggie I had defrosted her mouse in next to the tank. Well I walked away and an hour later (without even thinking this would happen) or so there was Harley, curled up in the bag.

A month later Harley got out again! This time he was gone for almost two months. We found evidence from him all around our fish tanks. He was getting thirsty!!! So check watery places! Anyways....two months had gone by and wham. there is Harley one day right next to his old cage, AGAIN curled up in a mouse bag from the Anerys feeding.

You should try that!

When Stella, my Amel escaped it was in another persons house!!! Thats a long story, so ill just tell you the ending. I went round to their house and looked for ages (it was 2 days after ) and found him behind a cd rack in a babinet . . . i guess i was lucky to find him shortly after he escaped!!!

Hey Earlybird79,
The thing that BMM said about the snake comming to the bag,It was smelling the mouse. If you place a defrosted mouse by a wall your room when its dark this may bring your snake out. You can keep watch if its not too dark.
You can also tie an empty pop can to a long piece of thread and the other end to the mouse and place the can on the edge of a desk or shelf the can will fall if there is any movment of the mouse. This will hopefully wake you up if you fall asleep. Use regular cotton thread so that if he swallows a bit it wont cause any problems.

corns love to climb and they are really very good at it!! so if u have shelves up high look there and any warm places u may have!!
I dont want to worry you but the ladie i brought sirus off of lost a snake 3 years ago and never ever found it again and that was a 15 year old who was well over 5 feet!! (how do u loose a snake that size???:confused: )
keep looking i'm sure he'll turn up soon:)
 
I've had a corn snake escape twice...the first time I found him in the bath tub, the second time (months later, different apartment) I found him on the bathroom floor making his way to the tub again, where I was taking a hot shower. We have a dry climate here so I figure the water and humidity was irresistable.
 
still nothing everyone, I mice round my room on plastic bags and gracie was a big eater. Ive made little houses on heat mats for her to crawl into, Ive emptied my whole room and still nothing. I cant believe it!!

So Im very sad at the moment, missing my snake :(

tell us if you find him-I had a clutch of 8 babies escape after a cat pushed in the screen top-took me 3-4 days to find em all but they all were ok
 
its been 2 weeks this weekend and I still havent found him. I have a really bad feeling that he has left my bedroom. I was thinking about getting a big plastic bowl of water and putting the heat mat on under it so that the heat rises and attracts the snake. What do you think of that plan?

Anyone else with ideas? Ive searched high and underneath everything and Ive left dead mice everywhere!!

uh... i got 1 idea that may work.. try rigging up some kind of trap.. an put a couple live pinkies in there, or some other kind of live harmless food if you can..its been two weeks, unless u got rats in ur house, hes getting hungry..with the trap, u could have it so that it closes on the animal.. or has an ideal hide box with heat supply to encourage it to crawl up and sleep there.. Sorry about all this.
 
I would think he did leave your bedroom. The hatchlings I lost upstairs were found the next morning downstairs and two rooms away. Look anywhere it could hide. think "dark and safe" ;)
 
yippeee hes returned!!!

He hadnt left my room at all, Ifound him hidden in my pyjama drawer he must have moved there from somewhere else though. Anyway, thankyou for all the advice hes now back in his escape proof tank and is looking forward to feeding time tonight!!

Congrats in finding him!!! This time make sure that he doesn't do it again.....

I would say leave him in there for a day or two before feeding so that he gets used to his 'little home' ......since he was wondering from the 'big home'.......not used to the little one yet....so I would leave him in there for a few days before feeding again.
