• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

About FaunaClassifieds being down....

Well, guess what? The modem assigns a dynamic IP which the router then changes to a static one.

That however is an easy, 30 second fix, which I have done.

Still no fauna.

Rich, are you toying with my fragile emotional state?

Nope, not at all. If you think this has been fun for me, you are quite mistaken.

I will be having FaunaClassifieds moved to a new server and hardened network sometime early this week. As to whether it will fix the problem of some people being blocked, I really don't know. DDoS is a serious problem that most people are not even aware of. I know I sure didn't know much about it beforehand.........

Sorry Wes, but if you are being blocked from the site, then the only explanation is that your IP address is being spoofed as being the source of some aspects of this attack. The program code can only block via IP address and has no way of telling if it is legit or not. Seems kind of odd that out of all the many IP addresses available that there would be a lot of hits on REAL users. That does bring up the interesting possibility that whoever is behind this wants to smack you down to in relation to the site and somehow knows your IP address.

Oh, and for the record, whatever it is you have done has NOT changed your IP address here at all. So you are still using that original IP address over on Fauna as well. Have you tried just bypassing the router and going direct to the modem? If the router is changing your IP address, you may want to try that.

Didn't mean to imply that you were snickering.

According to my computer I am now using the IP 207.168.2.2 and before it was 198. something or other. I even changed my subnet mask. Oh well, being barely computer literate I'm out of things to try. Hopefully your move will let me back in.

I am not surprised that we were both targeted, if that is what happened. After all, I am one of the biggest pains in the ass on the internet and you give me the playground to cause pain in.

I would appreciate it if you kept me in the loop when you finally figure out, or narrow it down signifigantly, who did this.

My IP would be easy to find out. I run ads and have a lot of people asking questions or for more pics and I try to respond to all of them unless I know from previous dealings that I don't want to have anything to do with that person. I'm also active on several other sites so it would be easy to get from there as well.

Good luck and hopefully I'll "see" you soon.

Friggin happening again...I'll get on for a few seconds and then i'll lose it....ever consider soliciting donations to get a more secure server that won't keep legitimate users out?

I think if you research what exactly a DDoS attack is, you'll better understand what is going on. Short answer is: when attacking servers spoof originating IP addresses, YOURS may be one that they are spoofing. The server has no way of determining whether the packet coming from the IP address is real or just junk. Once a trigger has been reached on the number of packets coming from the IP per second, it gets locked out as being likely bogus.

That being said, FaunaClassifieds IS going to be moved to a new data center that specializes in mitigating DDoS attacks. This is being set up right now. So the move should be complete in another day or so. Not that I think it will fix the problem, however, as the method of mitigating an attack remains the same, whether it is via the server itself, or a custom set up hardware firewall.

But we'll just have to see. I certainly don't know everything there is to know about this stuff. Not even close........

You know what's weird? When I try to access fauna from my laptop at work via wireless connection, the same darned thing happens. I get on for a minute at best, and then my connection is refused. It's as if it's personal. It sure isn't just my IP address, that's for sure.

Well, that is odd.... I've been able to log in with no problems, and as far as I know, no one else is having that particular kind of a problem. Wes (Wilomn) just logged in there today, so apparently he has gained access somehow.

I'm curious to see how things go once the move is done. I guess we'll see soon enough....

OK, FaunaClassifieds is over on the new server and data center. Let me know if it's any better getting on it now.

Well, as it turns out, for some reason whenever I signed into FC, I would get booted. If I didn't sign in, I could stay all day. So Rich helped me out with this by merging my old profile to a new one. Can't thank you enough Rich for your help, I was going CRAZY! You da man.
