• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

About FaunaClassifieds being down....

Rich, I'm not making this stuff up. Either I'm in the friggin twilight zone, or your new ddos defeat system is blocking my request to the site. And I don't see Rod Serling here.

Beats me. You have a Comcast account (at least here), which means you pretty much have a fixed IP address. Comcast does change them every now and again, but not very often.

I'm not sure how the code works to block the DDoS attack. If someone were spoofing your IP address, I would think you would be blocked permanently until the program is terminated.

Sorry, nothing I can do about it. My tech guy said it may block some legitimate viewers, but there is no way around that. Better some not have access then ALL not having access.......... :shrugs:

Gee....now I know what a sacrificial lamb feels like. And I was going to upgrade my subscription to Fauna when renewal comes around in a month or so. Guess we both lose, right?

Well, Fraggin .. you are not alone! I experience the exact same events. Fauna was down, then reappeared. I posted on a couple of threads at the BOI after Rich's wizard did his magic then it disappeared again. I get the same error message over and over again.
I'm certain it is not my ISP or computer settings. There are 4 computers in this house, all with different settings but connected wirelessly. Fauna is the only site that cannot be accessed. Guess it's like the wizard said ... some win, some lose.

Bummer ... I need my Fauna fix! LOL

:dancer: Whew....nice to know I'm not crazy, thanks for confirming that Laura. I'm gonna try to force an IP change tonight after work to see if that fixes the problem, I'll post here if it works or not. Take care!

:angry01:
Well Rich, 10 minutes after I PM'd you that I'd found a fix, I was locked out again. If something isn't going to be done to allow my access, can I at least get a refund of my contributor subscription payment?

OK, I'm gonna stop posting now, as I was able to get in again..... wanna bet I get locked out again in 10 minutes? This is maddening :headbang:....soooo i'll just sit by for a few days and see what pans out.....

You're not the only one. I can't access Fauna anymore.
I was on earlier and now I can't get in. :shrugs:

I was starting to think I was now the only one! Thanks Steve, for the affirmation. I still can't access either. Sadly, not even a glimpse.

I contacted the data center a short while ago and was told it is a DNS problem affecting a group of servers. The tech didn't indicate it was anything related to a DDoS problem. So I'm just waiting to see what happens.

Isn't having servers and running websites just SO MUCH FUN??? :bang:

Well, that's interesting. I thought the site was down again. I haven't been able to get on since the 25th.

I guess I'll have to see about getting my IP changed.

Wondered where you have been....... It's also interesting to me that local USA IPs are being used in the DDoS attack. Amazing what a jungle it is out there and we never realized....

I've been able to get on fine for a few days now, the first time after it was back up I had to refresh twice, but then the page came right up. That is the extent of my technical knowledge. "i hit the button thingy"

Time Warner Cable SUCKS.

After being on hold THREE different times, being disconnected THREE different times, wasting almost 90 minutes of my time I was informed by a tier 2 tech, in no less than 30 seconds that she could do nothing to change my IP, that it was leased and when it was leased I may or may not be renewed with the same number.

I then asked, just because I'm me, if there was NO other way to change my IP. She without a pause said, "you can unplug your modem for 8 hours and that should renew with a new IP."

So, not only can I not change my IP but by unplugging my modem overnight I can change my IP.

I'll be looking for a new ISP in the next couple of days.

Again.

Hopefully I'll see you on Fauna tomorrow Guys.

Ok, just to update me :)

I've been able to get on without interruption for 2 days now. I did nothing except sit impatiently and try when online. Fauna just magically reappeared. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it isn't just a fluke!

Well, 11 hours of having the modem off and no change, same IP.

However, I called in again today and was informed that if I switch the modem I will have a new IP.

It's amazing how little some of the folks who are supposed to be in the know, actually know. Had the "tier 2 tech" known this I could have saved myself a whole day.

Or maybe it's just another theory.

We'll see tomorrow.

The code running on the server is automated to block the DDoS incoming stream. It recognizes bogus messages even from spoofed IP addresses and then blocks that IP address. So yes, it can block legitimate IP addresses here and there. Not much that can be done about it, unfortunately.

I am talking with the guy who installed those scripts about moving to a more secure server. I've been learning a LOT about DDoS, and the more I learn the less I like it. And things are going to get worse before they get better. ANYONE interested in running an internet based business would be well advised to read up on this stuff.
