I have two questions; my first is about where to get a corn snake. I have searched online and not been able to find a local breeder in my area so it seems I will have to ship. But I've run into a lot of websites that have a ton of different reptiles as well as corn snakes, are these like puppy mills? I mean, should I be watching out for inbreeding/genetics? I havn't heard of genetically transimitted problems in corn snakes other than bulging eyes, so does it matter where you get them? If so, do you guys have any prefered breeder's links?
My second question is about keeping the snake in a plastic container instead of a glass aquarium. I am poor but willing to fork out the money for something safer for the snake. Is a plastic cage at risk of melting when you use a heat pad under it? Also, should you just use the plastic lid that comes with it and drill a lot of tiny holes, or would a secure mesh lid be better (is more ventilation better)?
Thankyou!

1. You can check out potential breeders/sellers on the Board of Inquiry at http://www.faunaclassifieds.com :) Some sellers breed corns as well as other species, so they are not necessarily "puppy mills" or bad people. Others resell snakes they buy wholesale, which isn't necessarily a bad thing either. For instance, I breed and sell many species of snakes, not just corns.

2. I use Sterilite tubs for most of my snakes. If you use Ultratherm or Cobra heat pats with a rheostat or thermostat to control the temperatures, you shouldn't have a problem with melting. I use a glue gun (with no glue) or a wood burner to poke holes in my sterilites-its cleaner and less rough edges that way. I also use binder clips, large rubber bands or velcro straps to keep lids secure and preventing escapes. With corns, if you don't want their tank to become too humid, poke more holes. :)
