I fave a few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer. Not sure how old my Son's Abbott Okeetee is but he is around 12 grams and 14 inches long. We have had him for around a month and are really enjoying him/her. When I went to hold him/her today I noticed on his/her snout so to speak under his/her eyes that there seems to be a texture change, not so much a sore or anything it just looks somewhat different than it did even yesterday. I should note that he/she doesn't look like he/she is in blue or at least the eyes don't.

So my questions are:

could this be an injury from his/her viv. He/she is in a 10 gallon tank with the uth under 1/3 controlled with a ranco set to 85, a bowl of water, 3 hides (2 half logs and 1 repti shelter) with a 1/2 front fold screen lid with clips. I should note the he/she cruises around the lip of his/her every night but somehow makes it down on his/her own so it's possible that he/she fell

He/she is being fed a pinky appx. 1.5 x his/her width every 4-5 days. Is it normal for him/her not to have shed yet?

I've not ever seen him/her drinking water. Should I be concerned?

I've only ever seen one indication of the snake pooping and that was just a smudge on the inside of the glass. He/she doesn't appear bloated or anything and is just as long and lean as before. Should I be concerned about this.

He/she has always had a shiny blueish tint on his/her head, is this normal? What causes it, if anything?

And lastly would it stress him/her out too much to take her back to the local reptile store I bought him/her at to have him/her sexed so I can quit referring to him/her as him/her and my son can finally decide on a name? If it wouldn't stress him/her out too much, how should I go about taking him?

Sorry for so many questions. We have 3 dogs, chickens, bees and a dwarf frog but I'm at a total loss when it comes to snakes. I'm hoping to learn more about them though.

Thanks
Becky

They'll often clear their bowels below the substrate. You won't notice every time they go.

I've had my corn for close to 3 months and haven't seen him drink.

I wouldn't worry about any scabs or discolorations till after his next shed. My corn had one right on his head I thought might be a stuck shed, but appears fine after his recent shed.

About every 30 days your corn should start hiding when normally they'd be out. That's the beginning of their shed cycle, about 8-10 days later the process should be complete. It's due for a shed soon if you've had it a month , most likely shed just before being sold to you.

Thanks for the reply mugenjin. Can you tell I'm just a little stressed about the care of this little guy/girl? :)

Will your store sex it? How do they do it? A baby is too small to be probed & should be popped instead. A snake over 18" (I think that's the size) is too big to be popped & should be probed instead. However if it's over 18" I would wait until it was bigger to get it probed, as the smaller the snake is, the more danger of accidentally hurting it. It sounds to me like the snake is getting ready to shed, mine's eyes only go cloudy for 3 days in the middle of the shed cycle. I'd wait until it's shed to get it sexed, but other than that it shouldn't stress it too much. When my snakes are going into shed, they will usually retain poop, sometimes for up to two weeks, then go right after they get the shed off.

Hi Tavia, I did call the reptile store we bought the snake from and they will sex it but I didn't even think to ask which method they use for a small snake. I'll have to do that for sure before we drive out. I think we'll wait as you suggested until it sheds though. I don't want to stress him/her out too much. This little one I guess will just be called Snakey according to my Son until we know for sure which sex it is. If it's a female he's thinking Kit Kat and if it's a male he's thinking blaze.
