I'm in the UK and there's a move towards using something called 'Hemp Bedding' for corn snakes here.
I'm not sure if it's a known product in other parts fo the world but it's very similar to aspen but considerably cheaper. (well it is in the UK)
It's usual use is for horse bedding but like all good things it soon found other applications, viv substrates being one of them.
