Everyone is chowing down on unscented f/t pinks, except saffron stripe #1, but all I have to do is touch the nose of his pinky to a frozen (I don't even thaw it) anole and he is all over it. He acts interested before I do that, so I wouldn't be surprised if he takes unscented next time. He has the best personality of the bunch, like a little ragdoll snake. So I'm considering all of these guys a success, except...
Saffron stripe #2: Monday I started the practice of force feeding, which historically I have shied away from. But I'm beginning to think it is better than feeding tails, if you know what you are doing. Since he only got a pinky head on Monday, and defected Wednesday, I went ahead and offered a pinky in a deli cup tonight. After 1hr, I force fed. I dunk the pinky in water immediately prior, to help ease it down. After I pry his mouth open and insert the pinky, I push VERY lightly, while holding the sides of his mouth with the other hand. I insert until the pinky is partially in the throat, and the rest is hanging out the mouth. I put him in the deli cup and check back after another hour (he finished swallowing). Things went more smoothly than it did on Monday. I will keep up this approach every 5 days, and monitor him for weight gain. I'll try to assist less at each feeding, and hopefully if he can get a little size on him, his instincts will kick in. That pinky head was his first meal in his life (other than a few tail pieces) and he hatched in JUNE!
