Amazing group of problem feeders!

Nice work! I know it can be frustrating.

Indeed it can! The two that haven't eaten yet (they also refused live) are driving me nuts.

But great news: the female buttermint FINALLY ate an unscented pinky. I worry that she'll start driving me crazy again when it's time for fuzzies, but for now I'm extremely happy!

Unfortunately the female saffron did not make it, even though I started giving her tail pieces. I hope the remaining saffron stripe male fares better. I am considering more drastic measures for him, since the female died despite being fed tails.

It's always upsetting to find a dead snake :/ However, she never defecated the tail pieces I fed her. So I can only assume she had some underlying issue that just wasn't overtly apparent. I do wish I had given her fluids with a syringe, though.

Pied-sided blood finally ate again *phew*. Seems he wants a little piece of anole skin on the pinky. My poor frozen anole has taken a real beating...beyond recognition!

Diffused saffron male took an unaltered pinky! The remaining picky eaters are the pied (wants anole SKIN on pinky), caramel cinder (anole scented), 1st saffron stripe (goes crazy over anole scented but won't touch unscented) and the 2nd saffron stripe, who still has not eaten his first meal :/

Don't beat yourself up too much, some of them just weren't meant to make it. I was given the cutest little bloodred male as a surprise once with a 1.1 purchase. He was just the sweetest cutest little guy. Even though he DID take a few small meals with me he never really grew and didn't make it. It happens but it still really sucks.

Congrats on getting the bunch to feed that have! That's awesome and a huge step forward! Hopefully they'll thrive for you and hit the jackpot! LOVE that Pied male you have, I believe I have one of his brothers. Not as much dorsal pattern disruption as yours, but still quite a beauty

The diffused saffron 50% ph cinder male and the diffused miami 66% ph motley 50% ph amel male have eaten unaltered f/t offered by hand multiple times with no refusals, so they are ready to go to new homes. I'll be posting a for sale ad soon!

I am definitely keeping the ultramel lavender tessera and saffron stripes, but may part with the caramel cinder and pied-sided bloodred, I haven't decided yet.

I'm curious to know what Caramel Cinder looks like as an adult. I'm wondering if Cinder masks Caramel like Anery does, or if as the animals grow they develop a yellowing to their saddles.

I have seen photos of a caramel cinder adult, but if I remember correctly it was unknown whether it was actually an amber cinder. The caramel cinder on ians vivarium has me excited, though.

The miami bloodred has been sold. Locally! To a repeat customer. That was easy!

Tonight I force fed the 2nd saffron male a pinky head. I've never seen an animal stuggle so hard to keep from doing something so natural. I placed him in his deli cup and checked back periodically, and 30 minutes later he was still thrashing about, trying to free the head from his jaws. He eventually swallowed it. If he does not improve after more force feedings, I will be sending him to Jarrett Kime, who is more experienced than I am, for some extra TLC.

Everyone is chowing down on unscented f/t pinks, except saffron stripe #1, but all I have to do is touch the nose of his pinky to a frozen (I don't even thaw it) anole and he is all over it. He acts interested before I do that, so I wouldn't be surprised if he takes unscented next time. He has the best personality of the bunch, like a little ragdoll snake. So I'm considering all of these guys a success, except...

Saffron stripe #2: Monday I started the practice of force feeding, which historically I have shied away from. But I'm beginning to think it is better than feeding tails, if you know what you are doing. Since he only got a pinky head on Monday, and defected Wednesday, I went ahead and offered a pinky in a deli cup tonight. After 1hr, I force fed. I dunk the pinky in water immediately prior, to help ease it down. After I pry his mouth open and insert the pinky, I push VERY lightly, while holding the sides of his mouth with the other hand. I insert until the pinky is partially in the throat, and the rest is hanging out the mouth. I put him in the deli cup and check back after another hour (he finished swallowing). Things went more smoothly than it did on Monday. I will keep up this approach every 5 days, and monitor him for weight gain. I'll try to assist less at each feeding, and hopefully if he can get a little size on him, his instincts will kick in. That pinky head was his first meal in his life (other than a few tail pieces) and he hatched in JUNE!

I checked out Ian's Viv and the snake in question looks like a Hypo Cinder to me. Look at the head pattern, eyes, not to mention the borders. It looks NOTHING like yours, and I trust Walter over random images from Ian's viv, especially when it's a lesser known morph.

I'm just not convinced that the Caramel Cinder listed is indeed a Caramel Cinder. :shrugs:

I believe the caramel cinder on Ian's vivarium may be the one I was told could possibly be an amber cinder. It's clearly caramel, though, since it's yellow. Did you mean to say it looks like a hypo caramel cinder?

Cinder clearly does not mask caramel in all contexts, otherwise a buttermint would not look different from a peppermint. Caramels hatch out dark, so we will have to wait and see what my caramel cinder looks like in time.

This was Walter's first year hatching out caramel cinders (although he has had buttermints for years). Walter also hatched out amber cinders and golddust cinders for the first time this year, so we'll be able to see what all three look like as adults, eventually.

I think it's totally possible that caramel cinders don't look too different from regular cinders until you take away more of the grays with mutations like hypo, amel, and ultra. It may just look like a cinder without the brick red tones that sometimes come through in a subset of cinders. Trust me, everytime this guy sheds I will be inspecting him closely!

I am about to add another 4 animals to this group, since only one of my nonfeeders is not eating readily on his own.

They were produced by Chris Guarino.

They are an ultramel cinder (appears to be red phase) male, beautiful candycane female, butter het sk cinder male, and classic het sunkissed amel caramel cinder female.

They should be arriving on Wednesday, and hopefully I have success with them!

Very interesting. To me they look like two completely different morphs. I like the Zombie head in the German version. Definitely a cool Cinder marker.

Kind of a head scratcher! Yours is so dark I assumed that Caramel was masking Cinder, the way Anery masks Caramel. Now I'm very confused! lol. Will be cool to see how yours develops.
