Another Snake Newbie!

Hello everyone!

I'm new here to the forum, so I thought I would introduce myself. I "rescued" my very first snake from my boss this week after doing some research. Poor thing wasn't set up properly at all with no heat source and nowhere to really hide and keep comfortable so he looked pretty miserable. But I've never owned a snake or any reptile so I thought joining a forum was the best way to go as I grow more experienced.

So hi everyone :D I look forward to meeting you.

Welcome to the forum! I'd love to see a picture of your new guy.

There's tons of info on this forum. The stickies at the top of each section are very helpful. And there's a search feature at the top right to look for any topics that interest you.

Welcome. I also like your user name. It's such an important indicator of corn snake health, and so messy if they do it on us, that we are pretty serious about poo here.

This forum is filled with info, but it is also very friendly and a fun place just to spend some time each day.

Congrats on rescuing your snake and doing all in your power to give it a proper home!

Thanks guys! :D I've been browsing and reading everything I can find. It's been helpful.

All of my animals have pooped on me at one point - especially my youngest dog that has puppy IBS. I know all about poop, lol!

I decided to go with Pythios for my little guy. I have a thing for mythology so I couldn't help myself. I've been calling him Py for short.

Here he is:

Thank you! :)

hypnoctopus - she said he ate 1 pinkie on Monday, I took him Tuesday. Do you think I should give him 2 pinkies Monday or feed him sooner? When I weighed him (which was extremely difficult, so squirmy) he was about 25g.

I would just continue to feed him on a normal schedule. At 25 grams, he should definitely be able to handle two pinkies or even a peach fuzzy. See how he does with two pinkies for a few feedings.

I fed him the two pinkies today and he didn't hesitate a bit. :) So I'll continue for a few more and then look at a peace fuzzy. I'm gaining confidence with handling him too, so I'm excited about that.

First feeding gone well is always such a good feeling! As you get to know each other better, handling will become a breeze... then it's super fun, cause you can just hang out with him and not be anxious about whether you're doing it right, or stressing him out. :)
