Any ideas how to light up a tank?

Hey, guys! I was using an external light to heat the tank for a bit before I got my heating pad and now the tank is super dark during the day. My father said I could use an aquarium hood light for the lid, but I was worried about my girl getting out and oxygen. Are there any other ways I could light it up without these hazards?

Some people use led lights, but not the whites, there are some that are natural sunlight. They are cheap, easy to install, have a very low consume and don't have UV, so if you have an amel it won't damage its eyes. These are for day lighting only, though, you should get a red bulb or so for night not to disturb the day-night cycle. If you don't know where to get red lights you can wrap a normal one with red cellophane paper.
Hope it helps.

Are red lights required for their health? I thought with the day and night cycle all I had to do was turn off the lights. Sorry for the silly question, but I'm just learning about these things.

No, no. Not a red UV light. Just colored red so you can see the viv but it's not so bright so that the snake thinks it's day. Or you can use a dimmer maybe?

Oh, well, I get the misunderstanding now. The red light is just in case you want light during the night to see the snake. If it's just day, just turn it off at night and tha'ts all.

Oh! Okay. It's only for the day time. I usually never have to check on her during the night. Thanks for the advice!

I'm researching small l.e.d. bulbs for my tank currently. I have a 50 gallon and made a second level out of plexiglass that extends only 1/3 of the way along the tank. Underneath is dark so I was thinking of drilling a few small holes in the plexiglass and inserting l.e.d. bulbs and wiring them up then waterproofing everything. Should look good when I'm done
