Any one keep or kept a Papuan Tree Boa?

Ooo ok, well Im really interested in the boas. Hopefully all is well with them and I will be able to take one home ( as long as it is all healthy and a good eater) tonight. I have to talk to my wife about it and make sure she wont have a problum with me getting another snake. Im sure with her it will most likely be the money issue, not the snake haha.

My ball python isn't a bad snake. He comes out at night, loves to be held, and is easy to care for. His last owner had him on f/t so we don't need to feed him live. The only problem is the two month long hunger strike.

My husband wants to continue with small pythons, and I want more colubrids. I'd rather get a Honduran milk then a boa, but I also like my cat and wouldn't want a pet that could see Holly as lunch.

Well, Im really thinking the next snake I get will most likely be a ball python. I think im going to put a shelf in the middle and make it 2 big chambers up top 1 for Seth and 1 for a future corn or ball python. When I handled the Tree boa it freaked out and kept striking me and was pretty aggressive, which to me wasn't to bad but my wife kind of freaked out when she saw it and didnt want me to get it.

That'll do it. I'd be tempted to order one of those local kings. Those were some pretty snakes. Ball pythons are great guys, but the genetics are so different from corns. They also seem to bond with one person and tolerate others.

I thought about getting one of those corns but I kept reading about people getting musked by them and people get bit alot, could just be hype but I wasnt sure thats why I havnt gotten one. They are very pretty snakes. Still being new to snakes, I am still learning haha so I dont know if this is an unwarented fear. I may have to call her and ask her over the phone when she will be expecting her next batch of babies. She doesnt have to many listed last I checked that are not already sold.

How do King snakes compare to corns as far as attitudes? I just dont want to get musked all the time lol.

MOST baby snakes of ALL species are scared and defensive. Baby corns, kings, and pythons are all prone to striking or biting until they learn that you are not a predator. The babies that were not born knowing that the world is full of predators to be avoided or fought against did not survive to pass their genes on, and have been weeded out long ago.

There are many threads on this forum about getting used to your new baby - and getting it used to you. Most babies of all kinds will require a little patience for them to become really tame and calm.

I understand that, but right after that had happened the 2 people who worked with the animals started warning me that they were known to be aggressive (right in front of my wife "rolls eyes" ) which was the kicker. I know even a corn will do that. If I was single then I wouldnt care as much but we do have 2 little kids and have another on the way and when my wife heard them say that they were known for being aggressive even after growing she kinda freaked.

And I do think the next snake I will get will be a baby, I just wont take my wife with me next time lol, but I Think for now I will stick with the species that are known for not being very aggressive.
