Anything with anything?

I want a corn

Hi, I'm really confused by this whole genetics thing. Het, amel, I dunno. Whats all that mean? But heres my big quesiton, can you basically breed any color varaition wiht any color variation? Example, would I be able to breed a snow an da motley and get some wierd and crazy color combonation? Or do things have to be more specific, such as butters can only breed wiht hypomelanestic, normals, ect ect ect. Im so confuzzled :shrugs: :twohammer

Im a little confused on this, but ive got most of it down.

I believe that Snow is a color morph, and motley is a pattern. So you could do that, I know Rich has produced some of these.

I forget how Hypo is used.

I'm no expert either, but I know that you can't just breed anything to anything and expect wonderous results. For example, I want to breed charcoal motleys. In order to do this, since they have different traits, I have to breed a charcoal and a motley together, and their offspring will be normal colored/patterned, but have the same traits as their parents. If I breed those together, I get a mix of different colors/patterns, including my charcoal motleys. Read that website and you'll gain a bit of insight.

A search of the forum for hets should return a ton of threads. Here's a start: The genetics of "het"

would I be able to breed a snow an da motley and get some wierd and crazy color combonation?

Both parents have to carry the same gene in order for it to show in the offspring. A plain Snow bred to a plain Motley would make completely normal colored and patterned babies.

Check out the old threads. They are full of info and insight.

I want a corn, stick at it read a lot in the genetics forum here It may be a bit tricky at first , but it all starts to fall in place and then it gets really fun.
