Thora is an A. Versicolor that I picked up at an expo last summer. I'm not sure what gender she is, but for a good luck charm, I'm calling her a she. I hope she turns out to be female. She's molted countless times with me now, and I'm feeling good about her progress! This is the first time I've really "disturbed" her to take photos.

Usually I open the top of her lid and mist her every day, drop in crickets once a week, and pretty much leave her alone. Today I grabbed her most recent molt ( over the weekend, sad I missed it!) out of her tub and decided to open up her silk burrow for some pictures. Here they are!

It's kind of hard to get a good picture of her because she just has so many different focal points. I like these photos taken without flash because they not only soften her out, but also really bring out her color.

Thora is beautiful! Does she really have that dark blue coloring?

And her home is awesome/wicked! Anyone sharing that big ol' tank with her? LOL

EDIT: Also, I had a molt for a loooooooooooong time of my Tarantula and her...HIS fangs were always showing in molts.
 
I'm scared of SMALL spiders, I think she's beautiful.

So beautiful I'd look into getting one down the line, what gorgeous colours.
Are you not allowed to pick them up or anything? I'm aware this might be a very stupid question.
 
I have a Versicolor myself. I wish I could take pictures like that of my little sucker! So pretty aren't they?
 
beautiful! we used to get versicolors in the pet store i worked in.

would never want a T in my house, nor do i want to touch them (i held one once, and it was pretty nerve racking), but they sure are beautiful and your girl is no exception!

also i have a snake named Thora!

She's very blue! I think he colors are intensified a little bit in these pictures due to exposure time, but no editing has been done to them.

Thanks for the compliment on her home. I was a little nervous to keep an A. Versi again, because I had one before and the little guy didn't make it. I am pretty sure it was due to the home I had it in. Versis are pretty sensitive. They need humidity. A cage drying out too much can be fatal. At the same time, mold can also be fatal. One of the reasons I was so excited to get her is that she came in this little set up that the breeder had put her in. I figured he knew what he was doing and that she had a really good chance at thriving. I decided to keep her in the plastic cup and throw in a few sticks for her to create her home around.

This is the set up I had for my first Versi, and it was way too dry.

This one came to me much larger than the girl I have now, yet it didn't make it past its first shed. I'm 98% sure it died because of the set up I had it in, even though it seems "nicer". I think the hardest part about raising Versis is the set up you have them in.

I very rarely touch my Tarantulas. My Ts are display animals only. I have only handled Thora once, and it was because she scurried out of her tub before she got used to me misting. Ever since that experience she's stayed firmly put when I'm misting, so I think she prefers her safe home and was actually a little freaked out about being away from it.

Not a stupid question at all! I think it's personal preference. I don't handle mine, and I think they prefer that. I know some people do handle theirs though. If you're going to handle yours, I think it's best to raise a sling and get it used to handling early on. At the same time you don't want to handle it too young, because Ts can be VERY fast when they want to be, and it's easy to lose a baby. Basically what I'm trying to say is, buy from a breeder!

You should definitely get a Tarantula! They're the easiest pets ever. They're also very affordable. For example, this girl was only $25, including her set up. I buy crickets for her every few weeks or so, and they are about 10 cents each. I usually just get a dollar at a time, but that is almost too much. They last her for awhile. I like arboreal Tarantulas because you can see them and their homes all the time. A. Versis are a little challenging, a good beginer arboreal is an A. Avicularia. They are pretty cool too. I suppose if all goes well with this girl though, you can just follow my steps. :dancer:
 
Thanks for all the compliments, guys! I'm so in love with this girl, and I'm glad that you all enjoy her as well.

I'm very happy because I just got my other Tarantula back today. She was staying with a friend because my ex roommates weren't comfortable having a Tarantula in the house. A friend who lived just down the street offered to take her in, so she was at his house for awhile. Now that I have my own apartment, I was finally able to get my baby back!

Sweet! I tried to get a few after I put him/her back into the enclosure, but plastic and flash just don't mix. It really was kind of nice to have the little one in my hand for a minute.. looks like I have an excuse to take her out again!

The moult is in pretty good shape, but I think the important parts are too small to make anything out of.

I'll try to get a shot of the underside of its abdomen! I'd like to be able to go with "him" or "her" so I don't have to keep saying "it.". :eek:
 
Keep in mind I am NOT an expert, but I think it looks female.

My un-easiness of spiders was countered with the awesome colors. Blue looks so amazing on animals, even spiders. Not sure that I'd be comfortable having a tarantula in the house, but I can admire it from the safe distance of the CPU.
 
Thanks for the link! I've tried just browsing Arachnoboards or doing a search for Versis, but there is just so much information over there, and I always end up getting side tracked.

I have one of those over sized tweezers for cleaning, and I kind of nudged her onto it. I then just kept snapping photos until her abdomen was in between the two sides of the tweezers. It worked even better than I'd thought it would!

Also, congrats on being a future Versi owner! I absolutely adore mine. I hope that it's female, simply because I want its life span to be longer. If it's a male I won't be crushed, but I will start fearing him reaching maturity.
 
I agree about the blue. Coupled with the red hairs on the back and those nice soft looking pad feet that's a very beautiful animal. It even looks good on the bottom.
