Baby Sea Turtles!!

Gralena

Corn Snake Diva
Hi guys! I went for an early morning walk on the beach and stumbled across some baby sea turtles hatching. We saw 4 in all (which we named Squirt, Dude, Valiant and Frosty :))....soooo cute!! Their eggs were precariously stranded in some rocks where the beach was totally washed away by storm Fay. They hatched...then fell...then managed to get to the water. Here are a couple video links and then also some pictures. Enjoy!

That is sooo cool that you got to witness that!! They are so adorable and it's just amazing to watch and know that when they are grown their going to return to that same beach to lay their eggs..great find :0)

Thanks guys! Yes, it was very exciting to see...I was amazed by how small they were, probably only 2-3 inches big. 2 of them could fit in the palm of your hand. Precious!

How wonderful! I was about to ask you in another thread if you were missing IN, but after seeing something like that, I'm thinking probably not. ;)

Thanks so much for sharing!!

What a great day! Would that I were as fortunate! LOL.

They're such cuties. I hope that they ALL make it to return back when they're adults. That would be great!

Thanks for sharing!

Fred

No, I'm not missing Indiana too much right now!! I had a couple weeks off work and we have been at the beach almost everyday. There is a bridge leading to the beach and manatees and dolphins swim under it in the early morning and evenings!! I've got to take some pics of that to put up.

I do miss friends and family, plus my new job is taking some getting used to...but overall Florida is great.
Plus, about 2 days ago we opened the front door.....and THIS was on our porch! (only in Florida....:))

I sure hope they do too....after watching all of their struggles this morning, I feel like they are my little turtle kids. lol. I read that 90% of them don't make it to adulthood, unfortunately. But once they do, I think they can live for many, many years.

Congratualations on seeing the babies hatch!!! So lucky!!! That boxie looks like a Florida boxie to me- just like my Krusty.

Just curious... are you keeping that turtle? My kids would LOVE to have one... Although I would cringe at it not being CB. LOL.

No, we did not keep it...just snapped a couple photos and left him be...1 dog and 6 snakes is enough for me right now!

What an awesome experience you got to witness of nature at work! It's not often people just stumble upon something like that.. Congrats!
