OK, I can't even believe I'm doing this.
FinFang had a bout of regurging, I'm not entirely sure he's "cured" but I'm feeding him smaller mice than he could probably handle for...probably the rest of his life. He just randomly can't keep things down sometimes, even after the panacur treatment. And yes, his temps are fine. No other snake of mine has ever regurged.
Which means yes, I did take him to the vet. He's never had a live mouse (his breeder is a member of the local reptile club and this form, does not feed live) and I don't leave mice laying about either. It's just one of those things, I guess he's sensitve or something. Anyway, at least it's under control now. But this is all a little OT.
So, after he went to vet, and tested positive for parasites, I got this message from a local vet (well, not local enough, I had to go to a closer vet who isn't as reptile savvy but still pretty good) who is also in the reptile club, has an interest in reptiles and *actually* owns a few:
"Oh and one other thing. Snake fecals often times have parasites that are from the mouse and not from the snake. Can be very hard to distinguish between the too. In other words just because your snake is testing positive for feces, doesn't mean it has a problem."
So there you go. I didn't ask what his sources were, but I can't think of a better reptile vet in the whole province than this guy. I mean, he joined the reptile club! How often does that happen?
In short, show me a snake who tests negative for parasites, then maybe you can question snakmasters husbandry. And even then, if FinFang can get them, I guess any snake can.
*edit to add
In the time it too me to post this, the snake went from "having parasites" to "inconclusive" to "negative". I already regret defending him. Oy.
