Well, Guys, Monty escaped =( I tried EVERYTHING to find him, from bottle traps to leaving talc in the doorframes to track his movement. No Luck. Its been about 4 months now, and am planning on some new pets - some rats, but I will always have a spare tank ;). I will miss Monty but i suppose these things happen. I will probably still drop in to CS.com when I get the time because my interest in reptiles will never die ;)

Hi Connor!

Tula is right - he might show up.. so keep your eyes open!! Here's a fun story about this:

My Son Joe has a really pretty King Snake - brooski I believe. Her name is Fluffy. When we moved last November, he transported her over in a cardboard box that he didn't tape very well. I found the box the day after he brought her over, but no snake!! We looked everywhere we could possibly think.

About two weeks ago I heard water running, but couldn't locate the source. I lifted a trap door that leads to a huge crawl space under my house. Well I saw LOTS of water so immediately turned it off and called the Landlord and Plumber. They came out and fixed the pump that is under there. There was 3 feet of standing water in some places! The next morning I lifted the trap again and most of the water was gone. However, sitting on a ledge is Fluffy - just lookin at me like "whats up mom?" She was COLD, dirty and stinky. I couldn't believe it!!!

The only thing we can figure out is that she got into a heating vent that was loose in my daughters room. Somewhere under the house there must be access out of the vent system. However since we run the heater she was able to stay warm during our very cold winter. When all that flooded she must have been brought out of her self imposed brumation for a spring swim!

She was kind of a fat lazy snake before - once I got her cleaned off I couldn't believe it - she looks better than she ever has!!! She was gone a total of 6 months!

TAPE!!

I cannot stress enough how well this system works for locating lost little snakies...Painter's Tape, blue or green(since it is low-tack), sticky-side-up along floorboards and walls all over the place, and just leave them in place for a few days...

I've always thought of tape as the VERY last trap to use because removing a squirmy biting snake from a bit of tape WITHOUT hurting it is pretty much, well - impossible.

The blue or green painter's tape is actually an extremely low-tack tape. MOST of the time it can be removed with very little effort, but what doesn't come off will readily wash off with warm water.

It is used as a "mask" for automobile painting, wood finishing, trim painting, etc. It is designed to be used on new paint and it will NOT remove anything it is stuck to from the wall, like the white masking tape will. Obviously, white masking tape, duct tape, packaging tape...all of these could cause damage to the snake's skin during removal. But blue or green low-tack painter's tape should not stick well enough to be a problem...
 
Awww... I remember reading through your thread awhile ago. I'm sorry you haven't found Monty yet. Good luck with whatever animal(s) you decide to get.
 
Is anyone else thinking that the appearance of the rats might bring him out of hiding?
I hope they're tanks or bins and not normal rodent cages...cause you might find him in a way you don't want.

Don't give up hope though, he could turn up when you least expect him!
