BCC let lose in Kent, England

torsten

Too many yet too few!!!
On the news and radio at the moment is the news that a BCC has escaped in kent, the advice that is going around at the moment is to have all windows and doors shut and to be careful if you have small children and stuff like that, its ridiculous, its only 8 foot long!!!!!!

i think some members of this forum are from Kent, did any of you have anything to do with this??? ;) or perhaps you can give us some more info.

They can't swim long distance, can they, like to Florida? I'm worried for my tortoises.

No Nanci, but they can fly. They also have 20 inch fangs and venom strong enough to tackle an elephant. I'd be on your toes ;)

haha.. come on CS.com can take care of this.. just give us like 50 bucks each, a plane ticket over and someone will come home with a new pet. the pet would go to whoever wins the game of rock paper scissors or something. lol

i Know its stupid, but then what would you expect " oh no its a boa, they have really toxic venom!!" lol

They posted a picture of BRB, and thinking that it's a BCC!
Jeez, BRB maxed out at 15 ft?

Lol, people can be dumb sometimes.
Anyways, I found a story for you guys to read.

The average Joe does not know a single thing about snakes. They could not tell you the difference between a Rainbow boa to a Red Tail boa.

I have picked up 8 foot Pythons from the Human Society for our local herp society and they were 4 foot corn snakes.

The best thing you can do for those in England instead of mocking the situation is calling the authorities and offer your help and support.

so please take it easy on the police in Kent, they are not trained in a situation like this. They are not trained in dealing with exotic animals. Please calmly call them with out being cocky and talk to them and explain to them that everything is alright. Call the city as well and let them know everything is alright. No one is going to be harmed by this animal and they should be ok.

The reason why I say this is because this how Bans start on exotic animals. People fear them and are afraid they will cause on told damages and is a immediate danger to the public. To help our cause, have your friends and family talk to the authorities and let them know, its alright.

the only reason why this story made it to the public like this is due it being a pet of a celebrity.

And that person needs a good talking to about the proper care and husbandry of the snake. I really loved the part about it having free-roam of the house...:headbang:

And also, cuddle with cat!
How come can BCC cuddle with a cat without killing it?

After reading that article, I have a question....Would a snake, being cold blooded, even show up on a thermal imaging machine? :shrugs:

Residents in the area have been warned by police to remain vigilant and not to approach the reptile if they spot it, but to call 999.

'We have been advised that six foot is not large for a boa constrictor, however people should not touch it or attempt to pick it up by the tail as these snakes do bite.'

Why can I picture, if he was in the area, Mike aka snakewispera snr walking up to the animal picking it up and walking away thinking "Sweet, I got a free snake" instead of calling 999? lol

But folks, seriously, this looks to be a bad publicity stunt for this guy's album. And the sad part our hobby is going to pay for this due to the bad publicity and scare tactics.

Unfortunately, in the UK this wouldn't do the reptile-keeping cause much good.

For starters, it will alert the (very anti-reptile) RSPCA to your existence and you could find yourself on the wrong end of an inspection. This is never a good thing, as the RSPCA refuse to train their inspectors in exotics and all sorts of unpleasantness can arise from their ignorance, regardless of how well you're keeping your reptiles.

Secondly, why would the police believe you?

Also, your good offices will never make the press, as they're only interested in the Shock!Horror! stories. So it still won't do any good as far as publicity goes.

In addition, the press love a "Point At The Local Crank" story, so you could find yourself with a lot of unwanted personal publicity.

Sorry, but from past experience of other situations like this, sticking your head above the parapet can bring untold trouble.

Bans on exotic animals as pets are a real risk in the UK, but that's due to the political animal rights agenda of our major so-called "animal welfare" organisation. It's easier for them to push a ban through if they can keep up the hysteria (which they work hard at, bless 'em), but one lone keeper phoning the police & council saying it's alright, won't counter that, even if you do recruit friends and family to repeat the message.

We have reptile-keeping organisations in the UK who work hard to counter restrictive legislation proposals, but they just don't have the resources of the RSPCA, which can fleece little old ladies of pension money in primetime TV ads [/CYNICAL]
