Beautiful box turtle

Lynnea

That's "lin-NAY-ah"
Found this pretty guy in the middle of the road on the way back from dropping my daughter off at school, so brought him home for a few snapshots and then released him again. I love his colors and esp. the head pattern! Now, why can't I find an unusual *corn*...

You know what?First thing that came to mind when I saw this.
...Wow that turtle looks so sunkissed.... :dunce:

He is very cool looking!

When I was a kid, we used to find them all the time on the way to see one of my Grandmas. I can't even remember how many we caught and brought home.

Did you every keep any or just release them? I understand they are one of the hardest to keep in captivity.

I was very young. We tried to "keep" them in a makeshift box in our backyard. It was not very escape proof and they always got away.

That was probably a good thing in the long run! A little boy down our street found a box turtle, which I saw as I was driving past his house. So I stopped and tried to convince him to show it to his parents and not to keep it. Hard convincing a 4-year old.

I kept one for almost 10 years without any problems. He would roam the bedroom with a tray that he would go to the bathroom in and a dish he would climb into for his daily feeding...

Gorgeous! I love box turtles... I come across many while doing my field research. Almost always after it rained!

That tortoise is beautiful. I love the box turtles we have up here but I have never seen one that vibrantly colored here in michigan.
