• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

BEWARE OF TROLLS

Some of you may have noticed that we've had quite a bit of trolling going on around here lately. Honestly, I've spent way too much of my time chasing them around, and I have other things I'd rather do with my time.

We all know the best method of countering trolls is to ignore them. I know that sometimes it's fun to play with the trolls-- I'm guilty of having fun with them myself. But can we all try to give ignoring them a shot?

If someone posts about killing their snake by whacking it against the wall, ignore it. If someone posts about their female becoming eggbound by eating her eggs, ignore it. If someone posts anything that makes you suspect they're trolling, ignore it. I know that sometimes it's not easy to tell a troll from an earnest poster, but other times it's obvious. As I've said before, if a troll is indistinguishable from an earnest poster, then it isn't a big problem anyway.

That sucks... I don't like trolls but OTOH it is kind of fun to ridicule them and spam up their posts with lolcats... I will try to be good though.

Most of these accounts, including StaceyBaybee, claim to be from the UK in their profiles, but their IPs originate in Amsterdam.

In the UK, it isn't uncommon for IP addresses to be registered elsewhere in Europe, even for private users. This is because of the lowering of trade barriers in the European Union - the telecom and web environment offers some of the most portable services and can therefore take advantage of this more easily.

An example would be my company - the company is UK-registered, but our IP address range is registered in Germany. If you checked back the email trail on one of my business emails, I'd appear to be at a desk in Russelsheim.

The fact that a poster says they're in one country but their IP address indicates another, isn't necessarily a deliberate attempt at deceit.

However, I share concerns about the posting/board use pattern quoted.

Thanks Bitsy. I was pretty sure that that was the case. It was one of those possible "legitimate reasons" I considered. I'm not sure what the possiblity is of a Guam-registered user having an Amsterdam IP address. :shrugs:

But location/ip inconsistencies are the least bothersome of this group's activities. Wherever they're from, it's the same place.

Trolls, I hate trolls.

is the account K'Bear linked to any of this trolling, by chance?
Funny you should mention that. I had suspicions myself. But I'm not investigating this stuff any further. If they break the rules, report it. If they appear to be posting nonsense, ignore it. I decided to ignore that one.

Even if that poster is genuine, their complete lack of grammar and structure stopped me from wasting any effort trying to figure out what they were trying to say. If a poster doesn't care enough about their own thoughts and opinions to convey them at least somewhat coherently, then I don't care what they have to say. I spent months trying to develop more tolerance toward the idiot-speak and silliness that seem to have grown more common around here, but I'm done. In that regard, the "old Roy" is back.

You're welcome, Nicole.

i fully agree, Roy. we all need a little sentence structure, people! i suspected it because they only had 2 posts, it said they were located in the UK, and it was the same run-on sentence babble as the one about the "egg binding." hopefully these trolls get bored soon and find something else to do. like play in traffic maybe?

My main concern is that the recent line of trolling will mean that geniune new members who join up from the UK and perhaps do not have the best communication skills (Like me!) will end up not getting the help or advice they need.

Another case of the minority making life hard for the masses, i guess.

Hopefully not, i do have my off days though!:bang:

Unfortunatly the majority of the UK ''yoofs'' couldn't string a sentence together if it came with instructions.
