i fed my baby corn a small pinky. at first the pinky didnt seem to be too big for him but he took a little while to get it down and now he has a huge lump and it has me a bit worried. i know the rule of 1.5 times the widest part and the pinky was a little bigger than that it was the smallest i had and its supossed to be a small pinky. hes a little lethargic, not moving much at all. im keeping an eye out for a regurge. is it ok to cut a pinky in half at feedings when they seem a bit too big. ive only been a snake mommy for a few weeks now and im still in that worried about everything phase. someone please calm me down. thanks in advance.

Welcome, and CALM DOWN! :grin01: I'm sure your snake is fine if he got it down. Not much you can do about it anyway at this point. Sometimes the smallest pinks leave a huge lump in smaller hatchlings. But if your temps are good, and the snake is un-stressed, he'll be fine. If he regurges, you can check the FAQ sections, or start another thread for advice. Good luck to BOTH of you. ;)

Hah! You should see the lump my smallest f/t pinky made in my new house snake! Must be 3x it's width---at least!

Good news! And yeah, my new house snake pair was in mind when I posted my reply. They successfully digested meals at least 3x their width, like Joe says. After eating the pinks, it looked like someone had shrink-wrapped snakeskin-patterned pinks in them. You could see nearly every feature and contour of the pinky.

My guy once ate the HUGEST mouse! He is over 3ft now (the snake, not the mouse! lol) But even I thought he wouldn't be able to get it down. I didn't check the size at the snake food provider where I bought the mouse (I usually do though)

Well, anyway,he got it down no problem! lol No regurge etc, he just wasn't that interested in eating the next week...lol

Now he is on two big hoppers a week, one medium adult mouse wasn't cutting it anymore...he would eat it and then slide up to the glass and 'ask' for more...lol

Don't worry about your snakie, chances are, if he was able to get it down without too much trouble, he'll be able to digest it no problem! (if temps are fine of course! Which I am sure they are! )
