Big Red the Hypo-Bloodred

Here is a shot from today. Slow and steady wins the race. He still skips some meals but he is doing better. I no longer have to split the fuzzies for him to eat. :D

Thanks! I think he is turning out very nice. I hope to be able to breed him next year, he is still to small for this year.

Here is an update on Big Red...

He went thru a rough patch this summer eating only twice since a July regurge. Refusal followed refusal... ad nauseam. He retained a shed that, try as I might, he just wouldn't let go of.

Finally in late December, while feeding all my other guys, I noticed he was trying to shed. I put him into a container with a damp towel and left him there for a day and a half... every thing came off. And the best thing was he started acting hungry! So I offered him a fuzzy. Nothing doing... I thought, "Oh no!"

The next day I offered him a small pinkie. GONE, like fast! This week I offered him 3 pinkies. He latched onto my finger! He has never had a good feeding response in the past so this was quite a surprise! After carefully disengaging my finger from his mouth I left him alone with his meal. A little while later... they are gone and he has a (small) lump in his belly.

I feel like he has rounded a corner and may actually recover. Poor little guy has been through a lot! I'm glad that he has finally eaten and feel carefully optimistic about his future. I'll post a new photo of him in a couple of days after he has digested his small meal.

Glad to hear he's turning around! I know the heartache of a picky/non-eater. :[ He's such a pretty snake. His eyes are beautiful!

Go Big Red, go! I'm rooting for him :)

He's beautiful. I hope he keeps eating for you, and that you have lots of pinkies for him to eat!

Oooh, he's starting to get more red! And he has such beautiful diffusion!! Looking good!

An update: he is eating hoppers now, every time I offer one! He shed today and weighs 80g, 4g in 15 months!

Here is a shot from today, out in the crepe myrtle.
