Not a big bite, but Red got me...

I was cleaning and feeding, mind you, Red is the shyest girl I have.. she never lets me see her eat... She's ALWAYS in her tubes.. ALWAYS... So I just put her food in.. so I saw a poop, I hadn't even put in her food yet, I cleaned it and snap, she poped her head out and tagged my pointy finger.. She's a thinner snake but 2.5 feet about, need to measure her. Three spots.. swear to God it was like getting a paper cut or sand paper cut... it's just the speed that scares you the most..

Thank God my snakes are such docile eaters normally... Or maybe I should learn to not clean when I have been thawing food over night.. They KNOW when it's feeding time.. They get SUPER happy and move around in the cages...

Maybe you touched the mice or something while you put them to thaw and you smelled like them. I clean my hands before and after feeding to take the snake out and in again after feeding just in case. Fortunately their bites seem not to hurt much.
They are so clever, really. Never thought of it before getting my boy.
 
Oh I for sure touched them.... Doesn't phase me, but out of all the snakes she was the one I least thought would do it!! lol

Here is the awful bite, I might have to call in sick today... ;)

Got my first bite recently, and honestly, I was so relieved to get it over with. That's a real doozy there ;)
 
Oh three spots. I know the speed they hit you makes you jump. I really hate it when they get the end of my finger and then try and swallow.
 
lol yes, the speed really did get me... I jumped.. scared of a little corn smh..

I love them though.. My savannah monitor got me a couple of weeks ago, I knew he was hungry so I wore gloves but he clamped down good but they have crushing teeth not cutting teeth thank God..

I have had him for 5 years and never been bit... but it's spring and he's getting frisky!
 
Pshaw. That's just a poke. Here is my big-boy-bite, he clung on (you can see the inverted "V" on the top of my hand) and used his bottom teeth to try to move up my thumb. It was so bloody at first that pics didn't do the punctures justice, so I waited a day for them to scab over.

I know someone has probably one to beat mine, but it was really interesting, not "fun interesting", but interesting.

ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and no I am well aware of that it was only a poke... THANK GOD! I know it's just a matter of time before I will get a real bite most likely. Even though thank god my snakes are very very calm. Was that a corn bite?

Yes, it is the element of surprise that gets you every time! My littlest corn (Awesome Sophie) thinks she is a cobra and hisses and strikes often, and just holding her to weigh and feed her she goes ballistic on my hand. My husband Jim watched and saw how there were either no or tiny puncture wounds so he volunteered to join the "Bite Club"! He is SO funny, I think he is getting into the corns as much as I am!

Oh wow, I had one of those that was my escapee :( not sure where she's at, don't think she made it but that's how she got away. She bit and bit and scared me that was my first one but it was barely noticble but she was fighting like a mad snake. I wish I hadn't been so clumsy.. Your husband sounds adorable though ;)
 
Aww, Michelle, you should have gotten the bloody picture. Buddy the (still tiny) Burm got me a few weeks ago (pic in my Buddy update thread) and before I even got my hand out of his cage I was yelling for my kids to "get my phone!" so I could take pictures. Mine seemed like slow motion, though. I reached past his head to grab him in the the midsection, and as soon as he turned his head toward my hand I knew I was doomed and it was as if I just sat there waiting to get bit, but it was only a second in reality. Poor buddy, thought it was time to eat. He must have been so disappointed :)
 
yeah that is usually when my snakes get excited.. they know it's feeding time.. lol
calling for the kids to get the phone, that had me giggeling!

Sorry, we posted at the same time! Yes, corn bite from Bootsie, he is right about 1000g. BIG boy but the sweetest one I have! He will put up with almost anything but someone messing with his dinner. But this was my own fault (as they all are) because I tried to move the plate his mouse was on to a different area in the viv. And once they connect it is nearly impossible to get them off, I was worried the blood might attract him more, but it seemed to turn him off. It happened again a few weeks ago and after about 5 minutes I finally wrestled him out of the viv and we were almost to the liquor cabinet (I was going to drip a few drops of Crown in his mouth) and he let go on his own. Lessons well learned!

Sorry for the lack of bloody pics, Joba, if there is a next time I will make sure I get the gore!

I know, it seems like forever because you KNOW what is going down, but there is nothing you can do. I am the worst photographer so I don't even think about going for a camera (my husband took that pic, and Ravenessa, I think he is pretty adorable! 20 years next month!!!).

I dont think she will :( she is a baby baby, I still have water down but she hasn't touched the pinky I leave out once a week since the one that she ate.. and the water is close to the pinky. so unless she brumated herself which is impossible in my room she is most likely dead now (ambien in my room is around 75-80).. She hasn't eaten since end of december. I feel so guilty for not holding on to her..

Wow.. your big guy got quite a bite.. Im grateful mine are smallish, even the adult ones are smallish, biggest is 300 grams something. and congratulations on 20 months <3 I hope one day I find something like that.
 
If you are looking for gore, this is my second bloodiest bite, from the lovely and ravenous Rhiannon, she's bitten me twice, both of them mistaken feeding bites. This was the second one. I did however manage to make it from Sept '08 to June '14 without being bitten by a corn snake (have been bitten by a bunch of other species during that time though) and the first few corn bites I ever got were from one or two of the feisty little babies from my first corn snake clutch and I barely felt them at all and they made no mark.

Rhiannon was around 250 grams when she did this.

It looks SO bad with the blood running down your hand and when you get cleaned up you always think it would be worse! That's a good one, though. I get tagged by Awesome Sophie every feeding day, she is a little 15g spitfire and finally drew first blood Monday. So proud!
