Blood With Breeding?

CornCrazy

What's one more???
I was cleaning cages, and I noticed that there was blood in one of my breeding cages. I have throughly checked out the snakes, and cannot find any wounds on them. Is it possible that the blood is from them breeding?

:eek1:

Have you called CSI?

Corn scene investigation...... :roflmao:

I'm seeing something similar. I found a small spot of blood in the enclosure of one of my breeder males, who is otherwise healthy.

CAV...you're driving me :crazy01: LOL!

Seriously, though...

This wasn't a small spot of blood. I don't think I would have been concerned if it was a small amount. I would estimate that this spot was about 4 inches by 3 inches, and all of the red smears you see are blood, too.

Is this normal? Could it have anything to do with the fact that the female is a first time breeder?

I have had that happen before too, I returned after leaving two snakes breeding and thier was a large pool of very thick blood about a foot across. I think the main cause is when a female tries to "ditch" a male when he isn't "disingauged" yet. The potential for injury is there and in an area that is already pumped full of blood...

ive had a similar thing and it hasnt seemd to effect the corns in question ability to be able to breed - lucky the males have two !!!

I was going to ask that next, limey. I'm glad to know that your snakes are still able to breed.

What about yours Carol?

I don't recall for sure if he breed more last season after that. I do know he did not suffer any infections or anything. Both this male and his mate for this year are in shed so hopefully I will know for sure in a week or so.

Well, I found out that the blood wasn't from breeding. The "female" turns out to be a male. It was one of the few I haven't actually probed myself. I won't make that mistake again.

I still find it odd that I could not find any wounds on the snakes, though. I even checked their mouths.

It still could be from an attempted breeding, I think I have read that JY has had a male "service" another male before. He placed the two together in a bag at a show and when he went to sell one, the two were "attached". Both were proven males.

Ouch! Were both snakes OK?

The post he made on the "other" forum, quite some time ago said that they were both fine, it was just inconvenient when trying to sell one of them!
