Blue Eyes- Ball Python

Last week I noticed that my adult ball python had blue eyes so I thought he was going to shed. I kept an eye on him through out the week and then last night when I went to check on him his eyes weren't blue anymore but there wasn't a shed in his tub. This has never happened before and I dont know if I should be worried or not.

I only own corn snakes so I cant really advise but with our corns, even when their eyes return to normal it can take them another 7 days or so to actually shed.

Hopefully some one can advise you more on this thought and hope everything works out.

I don't own BP's but all of my Corn Snakes and Brazilian Rainbow Boas will have clear eyes (after having blue eyes) for a few days and then shed. I would just give him more time.

What is the humidity level? I believe that the humidity level during shedding for BP's are higher than corns. I would check to make sure you have the proper humidity level.

Thanks

Thanks you guys! When I went to check his humidity I notice some of his skin starting to come off. I guess I just got worried for nothing :spinner:

If the skin is flaking and not coming off in one piece or a couple HUGE pieces, he needs higher humidity.

Hmmm

Well he is shedding fine now, I just had never noticed before. Usually his eyes stay blue up until he sheds. His humidity is at a good level and doesn't need to be adjusted.

What do you mean he is shedding fine now? It should all come off at the same time. Not take a day or more...

Considering you also live ten minutes away from me, the climate has been horribly dry lately, i seriously would consider getting him onto cypress mulch and into a plastic tub if he isnt already. How are you measuring the humidity?

Yeah a shed should come off like an inside-out sock, not like dandruff, lol.

A moist hide should do the trick or a bigger water bowl, if like Alicat says your climate has been dry lately.

I know how a shed should come off, the set up he is in is fine. I keep a close eye on his humidity and his temp. All this was about was his blue eyes going away, other people have answered my concern. I dont need lectures on how a snake shed should look like. I know how they should look.

Not wanting to sound rude or mean but I woudln't criticize other peoples advice on here. A lot of people if you tell them off for trying to help you you won't receive any help at all from them next time you have a question. Being nice goes a long way and it can pay off further down the road.

I did not lecture you.

The reason I said that is because from your wording it sounded like the skin was flaking off and not coming off in once piece. (From the other posts on this thread, other users also thought this is what you meant).

Also, you didn't know that a snake typically goes "clear" after the blue-phase - this suggests that you have not been keeping snakes for very long. And I don't blame you, not everybody knows this right off the bat, there is a huge learning curve to keeping reptiles right off the bat and everybody has to start somewhere.

You started here, and that is a very good thing. Personally, I come on here to offer top-notch advice, and I always do. So please don't be snarkey about it or you won't receive any advice from me in the future.

I apologize

I am sincerly sorry, I was taking it all a little personally and did get defensive. I am sorry if I came of rude or snarkey I didn't mean to. An I am not trying to make excuses for myself but I have been very stressed as of late so I guess that is why I took it to personally. Thank your for your advice and I hope you understand.
