Im leaving him to setting in for a few days before i handle him.. although i must admit that i am alittle nervous!!

hope to speak to you all soon

Hello, and welcome.

Hope he's doing well and post some pictures when he's settled in. What morph is he? And don't be nervous about him. there's really nothing to worry about. :)

HI,

thanks for the welcome..

Your have to bear with me as this is all new to me and i have lots of learning to do still (hence why i joined this forum.. im sure i will learn lots quickly and everyone's help and knowledge will be much appreciated)

He was labelled as a 'Anna Motley' at the reptile shop, but to be honest, that doesn't really mean alot to me (*blushes*)... however, he is a stunning little thing! ... i'll take some photo's once he is seattled down.

Laura

Photo's would be great. This place is a great place to learn, and learn fast!

I have no idea what "anna" means. I've never heard of it here in the states, but in the UK it might have a meaning I don't know of. As for motley, that's a pattern morph that creates elongated splotches that look like they are trying to connect into a stripe down the snakes back. The motley gene has many different effects, hense the name motley, but that's the basic idea. The splotches can appear circular (hurricane motley) or be mostly connected, leaving a wide, broken stripe down the snakes back, "banded motley".

Something i just found on the internet...

I believe that in the UK "Anna" is used as an abreviation to describe anerythristic... The term that the majority of people use is Anery

I just got a few quick snap's of him/her for you to have a look.. your have to excuse the vivarium.. its abit boring and dull at the moment (it needs something to brighten it up and cover up that sticky tape on the outside of the tank!!)

Any idea what colour/pattern he/she is then?

Laura

motley patterned and beautiful =)

how do you regulate the temp with the pad on the side like that?

Lovely anery motley, but you need to move the UTH under the tank. Belly heat is most efficiant for digesting meals. Be sure to regulate it with a thermostat, temps should be no more than 86 on the warm side.

thanks...

funny you should mention the heat pad.... the guy in the reptile shop told me to have the pad attached to the side of the tank like that because if its put underneath the tank, it might crack the glass :-S

Im abit worried about that advice and im not sure if i should be putting the heat pad else where... like half underneath the viv??

Please can anyone help and advise me on where to put the heat pad and what i need to buy to monitor the temperature (supplied with the starter kit, came a temperture.. but its not that easy to read.. its just a plastic disc with a dial)
do i need a more precise thermometer etc?

Lau

The heat mat will NOT crack the glass if regulated with a thermostat. You can buy them in most petstores who supply reptile goods. They may be costly, but absolutly necessary. It needs to cover only 1/3 of the tank surface area.

OK... so how do i install the theromstat? (sorry, probably a silly question!)...

So, just to double check.... i place the heat mat 1/3 under the tank and then by a thermostat to regulate and check the temperture? i will then make sure he has a hiding place in both the warmer and cooler side and place the water bowl on the cooler side....

Will i need to drop the temperture slightly during the evening and then back up slightly during the day?

Sorry for all the questions... i want to make sure im doing thinks corrcetly..

I'd appreciate some advice

Laura

Dont put the heat mat under the tank without being plugged into the thermostat. It WILL overheat and possibly injure your corn. You can always put a folded pillowcase on top of the mat to insulate the heat a little, although its not accurate and can still overheat.

All you do is plug the meatmat into the thermostat, put the thermostat probe on top of the heat mat that is under the glass and set the dial on the stat to somwehere between 80-86. The dial is never accurate so just set it according to what the digital thermometer reads.

OK great.. thanks for that...

Next question....!!

What kind of thermostat do i require as i've had a quick look on the internet and i see that there is a wide range and the price varies quite abit aswell.... Do i need a special 'day/night one' or dimming one??!? what size and wattage i will need aswell!?

Sorry if these questions sould alittle stupid... im just abit baffelled at the moment!

Cheers

ok great.. thanks...

I'll buy one tomorrow, but im sure i'll be back on here asking for more advice and help with it! Lol

Hiya, welcome to the forums. Cool to see another UK southerner from Scumhampton (no offense intended), play up Pompey, Pompey play up :grin01:

There are plenty of online uk reptile shops. Heres a couple of links from a decent online rep. supplies shop.

Thermometers - http://reptilekeeping.net/catalog/index.php?cPath=26

Thermostat (to regulate the heat of your heat mat) - http://reptilekeeping.net/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=52_53&products_id=368

I know Tula sed to put the probe from the thermostat on the actual heat mat, i do it a littel different (don't mean to step on your toes TUla m8, feel free to send me a slap :) ). I put mine inside the viv so that the actual base of the viv is at 82-85. Both ways are fine im sure.

Your snake is pretty :) Did you get him at a local pet shop in sotton?

Cheers
