Hi, you probably clicked on this tread just because of the title...........lol

But here is my situation: I introduced my male to the female but at first nothing happened. I then went to make coffee and when I came back and checked. BINGO The male was on top of the female. But now all I keep hearing is: "there are going to be no eggs!":argue:

I am so tired of it that even I have started to doubt it. Can someone please tell me what are the chances of me getting eggs? I think it is pretty high and are preparing for eggs.
 
So prepare the female's lay box now. They generally lay _after_ the pre-lay shed, but there is no guarantee. So you want to put the lay box in with her. She may like to sit in it while she is blue. Then she will shed, and will lay eggs in the general time frame of 12 days after the shed.

Remove her large water bowl and replace it with a bowl so small she can't get into it. I don't know if you have the snakes together or apart, but you should remove the male after the female is no longer accepting his advances, or when she goes blue. You might put them back together, momentarily, the day she sheds. If she doesn't mate with him in 30-60 minutes, take him away for good.

You may or may not be able to feel the eggs as she gets closer to laying. If you place her on the floor and let her glide over your second and third finger, under your thumb, and press gently, if she is relaxed you might feel and count eggs. It takes a few times to develop the feel for this. You might notice that the lower third of her body is swollen. You might see space between her scales.

It is a good idea to have her out for regular gentle exercise between now and when she goes blue. 10-15 minutes a day of crawling, swimming, maybe twining her around your fingers. This conditions her muscles for laying.
 
Oh..A small town....I know the pain that you need to buy all your things for your snakes far as I also live a 3 hours drive from a big city.(Port Elizabeth)
 
No. She'll find the lay box when she needs it. Usually they check it out right away! When she actually is ready to lay, she may get in and out and in and out a whole bunch of times before she settles in. You can tell she's getting serious when she clears a space down to the bare plastic and is no longer peeking out the top!
 
Here's a thread I made about preparing the lay box. I don't know what you'll have available for the nesting material there where you are. You need something like peat moss or sphagnum moss, just barely damp. You ought to be able to get peat. Just make sure it doesn't have any chemicals in it. You can use any plastic container- like an ice cream bucket, etc. It doesn't have to be clear, but if it is, you can check on the snake without really disturbing her. You can even lift up the whole container to look underneath her to see the eggs. Once she starts laying, try to limit your checking to a couple times a day.
 
Cyberduke, I am from Durban in SA. You will be able to get Organic Potting Soil without Chemicals and Additives as well as Vermiculite. I generally use just Vermiculite for both my Lay Boxes and for the Egg Boxxes in the Incubator. You can also get Perlite and you can make up a Perlite / Vermiculite mixture for the Egg Boxes.

You still have about 50 days to go before she lays eggs, give or take a week.
 
Thank you, she became very fat over the last week. I haven't saw her for a week because of a swimming clinic.

I got vermiculite at the nursery across the road. They say that they keep it only for the snake owners.
