It's Jager time!
...Life without snakes?

I haven't been keeping that long and I would be devastated if unforeseeable circumstances meant I could never keep snakes again. I just wouldn't be able to be... me?! :shrugs:

I could imagine myself as a completely different person... And I wouldn't know all the wonderful people I do that are involved in the "reptile world"... Who would YOU be?! What were you like before snakes?

Well since I don't have snakes (yet)! I can sorta relate to this feeling as a general "how would your world be without your pets?"
I honestly can not imagine my life without pets, there were about 8 birds in my house even the day I came home from the hospital. Animals are part of my life :D

Well the snakes are a healthier option than me caning it out clubbing! I'd actually been researching keeping discus as a hobby for just over a year, and was practising by setting up my south american 'blackwater' tank. (most discus breeders keep them in bare tanks for better growth, but I wanted a planted set-up). So, I'd either be still getting spaced out, or gazing at discus instead of snakes.

I can't imagine having ZERO snakes. I've owned at least one snake since I was fourteen years old, and I kept many wild snakes before that.

The snakes keep me out of trouble. One of the reasons I got back into snake-keeping was to give me something else to do other than engage in bad behavior. With sixty snakes, there isn't much time for bad behavior. ;)

Well...being a "new keeper" with a keen interest to learn all I can about the hobby, but having only been participating for around 6-8 months(including research time), I can honestly tell you that snakes have only added to my lifestyle.

I have always been an avid conservationist and animal lover, and have always had a keen interest in snakes. I planned on getting them after my daughter grew up a little more, but since she showed an early interest...I fostered it.

Without snakes...I'd still be the same father, I would just spend more time fishing, tying flies, and finding something else to keep in common with my daughter. My daughter is the main priority behind every decision I make, so while I consider myself lucky to have a daughter that also shows an interest in snakes...without them, we would find something else to keep us mutually occupied. Snakes might be a "rock" for some keepers...but my focus is always on my daughter. I simply consider myself lucky to be able to foster a common love of snakes between us...

There's definetly no going back now. I wouldn't give up my snakes for anything - snakes are here to stay in my life.

I've always kept animals, and I couldn't be without animals of any kind to be honest... I have to keep something. I just don't feel right without pets.

Well getting my first snake (and finding this site) has defiantly thought me the value of researching and learning as much as I can about an animal BEFORE attempting to care for it. Before this I still had animals but I never really did any hard-core researching about them (case and point: when I was little and found baby birds I fed them mashed potatoes because it seemed like the right consistency, they died). Even though I only have one snake I have done so much research now that I can confidently tell pet stores where to shove it when it comes to the way they care for their corn snakes. So without having a snake I would still be following messed up pet store gospel ;).
