I just got an e-mail from Nick Mutton about inland carpets. He will be breeding a pair this spring. I was suprised to learn that his male breeder is only 3 1/2' long. I know the males are usually smaller in carpets, but are they usually a lot smaller? I may have to re-think getting a male unless I go with a coastal carpet. I would be dissapointed if after 5 years my carpet wasn't over 6'. Ideally I want a snake in the 7-8 foot range. This is, after all, a big snake fix for me.
Another question for you breeders out there. I have no plans on breeding if/when I get a carpet, so I was going to get a male since I seem to remember reading about possible female problems. What are the possible problems with a female vs a male? Should I be concerned about them, or am I worrying for nothing. I really know very little about snake reproduction.
The prices of inlands may be out of reach, but all of the carpets are beautiful so I may get a jungle, coastal, diamond or mix. My main concern is to get a healthy snake that's a good eater, with a good temperment, that will give me the big snake pet I've always wanted. That means 7-8'.
