Chernobyl disaster incident (you tube series)

I saw much of this as well as some other footage when I was in X-ray school. Aside from Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Chernobyl was another disaster to study the affects of radiation on humans. Sadly in Chernobyl, the first people to die were the first responders. Fire fighters, helicopter pilots and police were all exposed to radioactive materials, fire and smoke and died pretty quickly.

Those first responders knew they were dead and went in anyway - takes some industrial-strength cojones to do what they did.

What bothers me is that the protective sarcophagus needs to be replaced and they are behind schedule. What about Japan with their reactor and the earthquake. Does anyone really know what is happening there??

That is going to be another long term study I'm sure. I haven't heard anything about it lately.
