City of Maitland is on my s*#t list...

The city tells my dad he can't have trumpet plants in his yard. He can't keep his boat in his yard. BTW, the local boat storage facilities are all owned by city employees :eek1: . He can't remove the weeds in the lake although he owns 100ft into it.
But, but, but....they went to the county and paid $250,000 in permits to bury a Gopher Tortoise colony to expand the Mailand exchange. The tortoises will die a slow lingering dehydration, starvation death. For folks who may not be familiar with Florida and Gopher Tortoises, they dig huge holes to live in. Some as deep as 25ft extending 50ft or more. And many other different species of animals co-habitat with the tortoise. Eastern Diamondbacks, Florida Pines, Pocket Gophers, frogs and even owls.

Someone smarter than me if you can link the story it would be appreciated. And I'll look for a way for anybody who would like to to voice their displeasure.
BTW, the cost to relocate the tortoises, $200,000.

P.S.- I'm offline at midnight (we're moving) but will be back on Tuesday. I'm hangin here till tommorrow.

Well Craig, I'm definitely not smarter than you but maybe these folks could help.

I was field herpin last Friday in Dunedin and the only thing I saw was a butchered Gopher, I was livid. First I stumbled upon one of the front legs and then the other. I followed the trail and found the empty shell sitting right in front of it's burrow. There is only one predator that could inflict that kind of damage and if I find him :punch:

Hey thanx Mike...

I know George from back in the day. He'll get the situation noticed.

I don't get people. I caught a kid who had put a Gopher in a five gallon bucket, poured gas in the bucket, and dropped in a match. :puke01:

Yeah, George is a great guy. Sadly he recently lost his wife. They were both active in our local herp society. I'm sure he can bring the Maitland situation to the right authorities.
