Cookie the Cockatoo dies at 83

Wow! Same age and practically the same day as Gene Wilder. They must have been parallel spirits! They even had similar hairstyles for chrissakes! (Talk about birds of a feather?)

Some things are too freaky to be coincidental!!

The coincidence was not lost on a lot of people. Though I liked Gene Wilder's work, I admit that it's Cookie's death that had me bawling this afternoon.

Sorry Dollysmom. Didn't mean to minimize Cookie's loss. If I croaked the other day and I were 83 and someone were to compare me to Gene Wilder, I think I could safely say that I would be spinning in my grave! However, Young Frankenstein & Blazing Saddles DO evoke some pleasant memories!

Sorry for your loss. RIP Cookie!!! Hope he's munching on his favorite tidbits in paradise right now! Nice picture BTW in the article that you linked that covered his death. He did have a long and fruitful life! Wish ALL animals could have that!

Thanks, Ken. They are long lived, but Cookie was the world record holder at the time of his death.

There are several statues at the zoo of some of the more beloved animals that have passed. There is now talk of a Cookie statue, so yeah, staff, members, and visitors are all sad. I'm a zoo member and I definitely support the idea.

Oh heaven's Axis, you didn't minimize anything for me. I just can't multitask this one. One was losing someone I knew personally, is all. Thanks for your kind words.

Any other day and I'd be feeling Gene Wilder's loss more deeply as well. I love the Mel Brooks' movies and his work in them. Brilliant man. I didn't mean to minimize that loss for you or for anyone either.

I imagine if they can create a duck statue for a Boston book (Make Way For Ducklings) then they can create one for Cookie! BTW .... this duck statue is very famous. While in Boston I made a special effort to see it! Little kids love it, and adults dress up Mom every once in a while for special photos!

Thanks Daddio. He did. I'm certain he lived longer here than he would have in the wild. The veterinary staff is second to none as well.
