Cool Sky Pictures

[Insert Witty Commentary]
Took a couple of HDR pictures of the sky earlier this evening, before the sun went down.

Both of these were done using 3 exposures at 1.0 EV intervals, and merging the exposures.

Thanks for looking!

I _think_ I like the first one better; the second is so cold! Both are beautiful, though.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Steph...I don't actually have "Photoshop" either. I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2. It's brand new software, just came out this year. It does everything that I could possibly ask for as far as photo enhancement goes, and has a built-in HDR merging feature. So far, I have not found anything I wanted to do that I haven't been able to do. And it only cost about $60, which is roughly 10% of the cost of Adobe Photoshop CS4. Awesome program, and even have improved workflow management and RAW file processing. Great program, IMO, at a very reasonable price...

If you ever want me to "touch up" any of your photos, just let me know. You take awesome pictures, and your jaw would literally hit the floor when you see what some very subtle and minor adjustments to contrast and sharpness can do for your pictures. No matter how good your camera is, there is always work to do "in the darkroom". No digital camera has the processing power of your computer, and ALL photos can use a bit of minor adjustments to improve the look. It's just a fact of photography in general. Even film cameras cannot get the "perfect picture" without a bunch of time in the darkroom, processing. It's just a lot easier in the digital darkroom...

The program I use and love is Gimp. Best of all it's free. Very close to Photoshop and Chris is right. It is amazing what your pics can look like with just a little bit of tweaking.

Chris I like both pics and even though you say they are "heavily" tweaked, it's barely noticeable. I wouldn't have known if you hadn't pointed it out. Great shots!

Hey, Steph...I took the liberty of processing a couple of your photos from Red Rock. These pictures are only very subtley adjusted...a tiny bit of contrast, sharpness, and calrification is all I did. Only spent about 25-30seconds on each picture.

You can compare these to your originals, and it just might convince you to get a processing program for your photos. You took excellent images...the processing just adds "pop" and some depth, which is very difficult to achieve "in camera". These photos were excellent to being with...processing does NOT make bad pictures look good, it only makes good pictures look better...

nice job! would be awesome to see what you could do with some of your snake pics... is there a thread somewhere where you have some posted?

Thanks Chris :) they do look so much better :) I have a program my neighbor gave me. I havent looked it over yet... I will look at it when I get home and see. I can tell you what it is and what all it has on it. My neighbor is a photography professor and takes some great pics as well.. he is the one that took our band photo.. I try to get little lessons from him from time to time. He has helped me improve a bit.. Oh and feel free to play with any of my photos at any time :)

I have a ton of snake pics laying around somewhere, but none that have been taken with the new, good camera, and none that have been processed. I'm waiting for herp season to get some really nice snake pictures. I have a couple lizards that have been processed though...THIS THREAD has a bunch of what I believe are pretty good photos...
