Cool/Stupid Impulse Buy: Lavender King

I can usually safely walk into my local pet store and not have to worry about fighting my snake addiction. They mostly have boas, and a number of shabby-looking, over-priced normal corns and low-end morph hatchlings. But I went in today to buy a few waterbowls for the '04 lav-anery and '04 hypos het blood that are arriving tomorrow from Stephen W., and the only cool person that works there flagged me down. She knows little about snakes, but she's just a nice person, who likes discussing them anyway. But she has some idea of what I like. Her friend, a former cool-employee of the store, just moved to Reno, and sold her '05 Lavender King to the pet store through her. She had been trying to hide the snake as much as possible, because she wanted me to take it, and she was waiting for me to show up. So we went to the back, and she pulled this girl(?) out. Puppy-tame, no musking, and beautiful. I couldn't resist. At $99.99 I only got ripped-off moderately, I think. :grin01:

Her name is Daisy. She was sold to me unsexed, but I don't think she has room in that short, highly-tapered tail to hold a pair of hemipenes. She's probably a getulus mutt, but if any specific sub-species comes to mind when you look at her, please let me know. :)

Nice one, Dean! I don't know much about kings, but I like those cool markings on the head! :)

looks like an albino brooks king snake. probably the best 'pet' king snake. they are usually as you described, "puppy-tame, no musking, and beautiful".

Nice one Dean! I thought Lavender was only seen in Cali's, but those markings look like Getula x Floridana :shrugs:

Very pretty. I love the head markings. & You are a sucker! lol snake's just follow you home :D

To bad you can't make off your snake purchaces on your taxes :D

Now you have somthing to feed you unwanted hatchlingcorns to... lol jk. Very nice, love the head markings.

It looks like what I've seen listed as "peanut butter" florida kings. A type of hypo, I think. I'm trying to find the sites where I found that info.
I found it!
I'd say that's it, and that you, D&L, and Mike are right. Cool. Thanks for the links. I've wanted to add a Florida King to my collection, and I ended up doing so without knowing it. :grin01:

That's a brutally honest thing for you to say. Oh well, the truth hurts. ;)

I already have a Mexican Black Kingsnake to perform those functions, if necessary. I'm hoping it won't be necessary.

Whew! If that had been a lavendar Cali I would have been forced to hate you forever
Daisy is a very pretty little thing :) Congrats on your lack of self control :grin01:
Just remember-the first lavendar Cali is MINE!!!;)

Nice florida king there Dean!

That sure looks like a lavender florida king. Don't think it's a peanut butter, but it's hard to tell from pictures only. My bet however is on a lavender.

Here's a picture of a hatchling from Gino's website. Btw, with shipping it probably was about the same price.

HA! I'm a jerk, what can I say? These are neat snakes though, they almost look waxy with the colors.

shame on you dean, you have no control. Thankfully you have great taste. congrats on the great pickup

Thanks Traci. Yeah, my self control is pretty pitiful. But you don't have to worry-- when I get my Cali pair, I want them to be the abberant-pattern in the colors you already have (white pattern/dark background). :)

Thanks Joe. I don't know my kingsnake morphs and genetics, but this gal was labeled "lavender albino" (not that that means anything). I've read very little about it, but I think in kings, lavender is sort of an "AlbinoB". I don't know if it's at the same locus as standard albino. I'm guessing not.
