Corn in fish aquarium

Hi, I would like to ask if it would be possible to breed corn snake in an aquarium with fish. I have two more peaceful catfish, aquarium 150 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm, I have idea to did top floor for snake and some branches above the water when the level of water was low (cca 25 cm), some floating flowers , snake would be may to go to water... is it possible or snake does not like it?

Excuse my english, I hope that you understand...

Thens for answer

Corn snakes are almost completely terrestrial (meaning they like the ground; ground dwelling). They LOVE to burrow. Occasionally they do climb branches and decor and things, but for the most part they like the ground.

My thinking is no, that would not be a good idea. The snake is not a water snake, and it would be stressed to not be able to have solid ground to sit on. Drinking only from the aquarium water (because I don't know where you'd put a water bowl) sounds like a bad idea... there's waste and chemical in there for balancing the water for the fish, and I don't know if that's okay for the snake.

They also need hides for security and comfort. In the wild you would not find a corn snake suspended above water, living in a tree its whole life.

Long story short: I say NO.

Please take a look at the care sheet on the main forum page :) it will tell you how to set up a corn enclosure.

All the best!

Corns are far too terrestrial for an aquatic environment, and would almost surely develop a respiratory infection in such humidity.

I tried this exact same setup when I was younger. It does not work out. The water across the entire footprint of the aquarium will make thermo regulation almost impossible, and the snake will start having trouble with digestion and other issues. After a couple of months, I had to tear the whole thing down do to the snake's health problems, and while he did eventually recover, it took several more months before he was eating again, and I had to start him (a fully grown adult) on live pinkies for the first 5 meals or so before he could go back to adult mice.

It is a cool idea in theory, but DO NOT ATTEMPT.

Thanks, my corn (5 years old) has a relatively large terrarium (120x40x40 cm) now, is a healthy and good appetite, but I'm moving into an smaller flat, I have corn terrarium, catfish aquarium, cichlids aquarium, red eared slider aquarium........and mouse for corn terrarium , I need to find another solution :-D

I can't help you out with the fish so much (I used to have MANY fish growing up, including piranhas, and a guppy breeding op in my bedroom!) because they need their own aquariums :p
But, have you thought about stacking the corn and the mouse/mice tanks? I don't know if it's possible with glass vives (unless you got a sturdy shelf), but just an idea to look into as a space-saver:

I think it is a totally cool idea, but I agree, it wouldn't work for all the reasons stated. I tried it once too. Ended up with dead fish, frogs and crabs (in the TANK!!! Get your minds out of the gutter...) along with white flies that invaded my bedroom. I had to take and dump the whole shebang in the dumpster.

Let the snake be in a comfortable environment, and as cool as it sounds, the corn just wants to be alone and feel secure.

I feel like a jerk now... :bang:
Those are not my tanks :( I should have mentioned I just got them from Google!! (But don't I wish). I WILL have stacking tanks once I move into my new place, but not like that exactly. I am so sorry for the confusion!!

But thank you for the awesome compliment ;) Too kind!

I have a couple of aquariums myself and I can safely say its not a good idea. I really wanted to do something similar in my 55 gallon but the humidity is like 85-95% most of the time and it'd be uncomfortable for the snake. Even if it was a humidity loving snake I don't think they would be happy only have 25 gallons of land space (since it is half terrestrial). For a household aquarium, it would just be too small.

My local zoo actually has a very nice aquarium that contains one ball python. The difference is that it's a 300 gallon aquarium with lots of square feet of space and on top of it they have dehumidifiers to keep it at the right levels. Their land space is large enough for the ball python to have a cool side and a hot side.
