hi everyone am a bit concerned about my corn snake 'nadia'.
shes about 4 yr old and over the past 4 weeks has refused to eat her mice which is very unsual as shes normally ready waiting for it the day be4! shes also goin frantic in her cage trying to escape.

Now I know it's mating season so was wondering whether that's why shes behaving like this but is it normal for them to go off there food for this long?

Me and my friend tryed mating are snakes last year but she didnt have any eggs but Now I've just read that snakes can hold the sperm. so could she be pregnant?
how could i tell?

pls help very concerned and confussed!!!

Are you sure your snake is a "she"?
Sounds like typical male refusing food during mating season.
I've also read some females will refuse food at this time. but sounds like typical male behavior.
Do a search on mating season and find out how long males can go without eating and it's not going to affect his health.....Good luck with your guy/gal!

funny you should ask that question as when I brought her from the pet shop I was told she was a he!
however 3 weeks after I got her I found a load of eggs in the cage so called the petshop to notify them that he was in fact a she! They were unaware of whether she had been with a male or not, 2 outa the eggs looked fertile but they died!!!
so no she's definatley a female. what else could it be?

It's possible she's gravid or she's carrying slugs. My females stop eating at some point when they are so full of eggs they don't want food. Last year my gravid female only ate twice during her pregnancy. So they do occasionally go off food as the males do.

As she's a proven female, sounds like she's looking for somewhere to lay. Like Meg's most of mine also go off their food when heavily gravid.

Give her a laying box - plastic tub half filled with damp vermiculite or moss. If you can't get those at short notice, damp (not wringing wet) paper towel will be better than nothng. Put the box in the midzone of the tank's heat gradient.

She might lay infertile eggs, perhaps fertile. Very occasionally, they act like they're going to lay, then they just go back to normal.

Time will tell - let us know what happens.

Thanks 4 that I'll get a tub and put it in right now,
If she is gravid how longs the gestation period?
Will keep u all informed thanks,

If she is gravid how longs the gestation period?

I'm pretty sure it won't be possible to predict when she's due to lay, unless you know when she started ovulating. Usually, you cn take a rough guess by the date that she first mated, but as she hasn't this year, I'm afraid you might have a bit of guesswork.

Going off food is an individual thing - mine can go off their food for anything from one to six weeks before laying (one doesn't go off her food at all and has been known to eat the day before laying). So even that isn't an indicator.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

They do love to give us the run-around.

Usually, they shed about 7-14 days before they lay. Mine is laying even as we speak and it's been 10 exactly since prelay shed.
