corn snake behavior and shyness

I got a new red corn snake about 2 months ago her name is nova. i hold her for about 30 min everyday that i can (the days shes not digesting her food) but she doesnt seem to be getting used to me or being out when ever im around at all. When i go to pick her up now she seems to stay a bit more still but sometimes she darts away, but she is okay when i have her in my hands. But i was also wondering if she will ever be used to me enough that she will want to be picked up or come out when i am there. I was wondering if they change when they are an adult and come out more often or do they just stay in their hides all the time? She always seems to come out when i am not there and if i am there she is never out, even if im in my room for like a day straight. Is there anything i can do to get her more used to me and comfortable with me besides just holding her?

thanks,

As the get older they seem to stop darting away as you pick them up. And they will settle down but they will more likly always be in there hides.

You could add some fake vine / ground cover to make the snake feel more secure out in the open.

I would put in a whole bunch of vines- suction cup vines on the sides and a big serpentine of scrunchy leafy vine along the back, connecting the hides. Then she can sit out in the open and watch you.

Lots of my snakes lay around in the open in the evening right up at the front of their vivs, hoping I'll notice them and feed them, I guess!

Mine have started to do this too! Every time I go near the cage the anery girl and motley boy slither up to the glass.

oh okay thanks guys =) from what ive read on this site she is proabably doing better than most snakes her age for that. at least she will drink water when shes in my hand =) that seems like a sign of trust.

I think that's what my hatchling was doing last week! I've had him about 2 months also, and when I was a day late to feed he spent a couple hours out in the relative open, watching me type. He's almost never out when the lights are on and when he is, he usually retreats when he catches me watching him watching me. Progress? I like to think so.
